Whilst wrinkles are a natural part of ageing, over time skin loses collagen which is what gives skin elasticity. Over time, our body's ability to produce collagen slows down, while external factors like sun damage or smoking can cause wrinkles.

Other things we do can also limit our body's ability to produce collagen - such as not removing makeup - which is why we are always told how important it is. Luckily a beauty expert has shared her top tips for fighting wrinkles, including how to remove your makeup properly before you sleep. Another top tip, shared by TikTok user Jen, is telling her followers to prioritise sleeping at least seven to eight hours and getting a good night's sleep to keep skin healthy.

Addressing her followers, Jen said: "I always recommend getting at least seven to eight hours of sleep per night." Another genius tip involves switching your pillowcase to a silk one, as they don't absorb moisture. She explained: "Cotton pillowcases absorb more moisture, silk pillowcases won't do that."

Jen explained to her audience that silk is "much better for your skin." A silk pillowcase is less likely to absorb products used on skin before bedtime, many who want healthier hair also use silk pillowcases. The expert also advised how to remove makeup before sleeping, advising against wipes, she said: "Never use makeup remover wipes. Try to avoid rubbing the skin in any way, especially around the delicate eye area."

Her final tip focused on removing eye makeup, she broke down the steps she personally took when removing her makeup, she said: "For me, I always remove my eye makeup first. I use separate eye makeup remover oil pads to remove a lot of stubborn makeup such as waterproof mascara."
