This Morning's Alison Hammond scolded over Daniel Khalife prison escape joke

Alison Hammond apologised after she was scolded by a This Morning guest for making light of Daniel Khalife's escape from Wandsworth prison.

The This Morning presenter, 48, said 'sorry' after joking the prison escape ordeal was like a movie before she giggled while reiterating a lookalike was arrested in London last night. "Sorry, I shouldn't be laughing over this," she said while covering her smile with her hand.

TV favourite Alison joked the situation is like a 'bad movie' before regular guest Gyles Brandreth interrupted and insisted the ordeal 'wasn't funny'. Alison then soon backtracked and said: "Oh, I'm sorry" as Dermot watched the awkward moment unfold.

Gyles, who lives in South West London near Richmond Park – which was being searched by police earlier this week – said it's an 'uncomfortable' situation for his neighbours to be in amid fears that the fugitive could well be close to home. The TV personality said he was kept awake on Thursday night due to helicopters flying around in search for the escaped convict.

Daniel Abed Khalife escaped from HMP Wandsworth, in south London, this week – with reports claiming the police are probing into if the escape was an inside job. The 21-year-old had been discharged from the army in May of this year after allegedly planting three fake bombs at an RAF base and gathering information that could be useful to a terrorist. Khalife has denied all three charges against him.

He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, red and white chequered trousers and brown, steel toe-cap boots, the Metropolitan Police said, and is slim and 6ft 2in, with short brown hair. Police have not ruled out the possibility that the suspected terrorist on the run could have fled the country – but said they do believe he is still in London.

Amid the search for Khalife, officers swooped on the man at Banbury station in Oxfordshire yesterday. However, it's understood the man was arrested then de-arrested when officers established he was not the terror suspect.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
