Rory McIlroy has provided an update on his injury status with the Ryder Cup just around the corner.

The Northern Irishman qualified for the 2024 edition of the Ryder Cup with his performances on the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour. McIlroy was one of the qualifiers for the tournament against the United States, which will take place at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Italy.

McIlroy hurt his lower back prior to the PGA Tour Championship in Atlanta last month. As a result, there have been fears that the 34-year-old could miss the Ryder Cup which begins on September 29 in Italy.

However, McIlroy has eased those fears after stating that he is "totally fine" with his status with the Ryder Cup just three weeks away. But he admitted that he is "not 100 percent" ahead of the blockbuster tournament.

"I would say it's at 90 percent, 95 percent," McIlroy told Sky Sports on Wednesday. "It's not 100 percent better. I just happened to take care of it a little bit but it's not preventing me from doing anything I want to do. Just being a little mindful, I guess."

"No, not at all," McIlroy added when asked if he was concerned about his level of fitness going into another tournament. "I've had much worse [injuries]. I had much worse back issues when I was 21, so this is fine. This is a bit of tightness, a bit of a muscle spasm.

"This is nothing compared to some I've had. I've had a herniated disc and I've had stuff that would be a lot more worrying than this is, and I've got really good people around me that know what to do. It's fine. It's totally fine. I maybe don't heal quite as fast as I used to but it's all good."

McIlroy has been getting ready to compete in the Irish Open this week at The K Club. McIlroy hit a three-under-par round of 69 on Thursday in his first round at the Irish Open. He is tied in 25th place alongside a host of other golfers including Billy Horschel, and Pablo Larrazabal, and is one shot behind Ryder Cup teammate Shane Lowry and Team Europe captain Luke Donald.
