Tributes have been paid to a beloved son, brother and fiance who was killed when his car collided with a bus on the Cleddau Bridge this week.

A major incident was declared at the scene of the accident in Pembrokeshire, Wales, when the large vehicle hit a car on Tuesday. The driver of the coach was rushed to hospital where he remains in a stable condition. All 24 passengers were taken to hospital but were later discharged.

Matthew Chapman, 32, died at the scene when his car hit the 52-seater bus. Today his heartbroken family have paid tribute, saying he was "loved by all". His family said: “Matt is a much-loved son, brother, fiancé, grandson and friend to many.

"He was loved by all who met and knew him. We are all shocked and devastated, and would ask for privacy at this time to try and come to terms with what has happened.”

The family is being supported by specialist officers. The coach was operated by Titterington Holidays, based in Penrith in Cumbria.

A spokesman for Dyfed–Powys Police confirmed officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision. They are appealing for anyone with information to get in contact.

They said at the time: "The collision involved a car and a coach. Sadly, one person has died. Next of kin have been advised and are being supported by officers."

It is currently unknown what caused the crash and politicians from the local area sent their thoughts to the affected parties. The alarm was raised at around 2pm on Tuesday and an air ambulance arrived at the scene and took off with the freed driver shortly after.

The local health board asked people to avoid attending the Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest unless their condition was life-threatening or serious after a major incident alert was raised.

Wales' First Minister Mark Drakeford said it is "worrying to hear news of a major incident on the Cleddau Bridge" in Pembrokeshire. He added: "My thoughts are with all those involved and my thanks to the first responders and emergency services working at the scene."

A spokesman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said at the time: "At 2.19pm the Pembroke Dock, Milford Haven, Haverfordwest, Tenby and Narberth crews were called to an incident on the Cleddau Bridge, Pembroke Dock.

"Crews responded to a road traffic collision involving one 52-seater bus and one private motor vehicle. Many of the bus passengers are suffering with various injuries."
