Meghan Markle is 'upset' over Kate Middleton 'tension' and 'won't forgive' her

Meghan Markle has reportedly been "upset" over alleged tension between her and Kate Middleton, with her said to have once believed they could have a "great friendship".

There's been much speculation about the relationship between Meghan, 42, and her sister-in-law Kate, 41. It's attracted further attention amid Prince Harry, 38, returning to the UK this week without his wife Meghan. It's been claimed that Meghan refused to go with him, with it having been alleged that she "refuses" to associate with the Royal Family now. There's speculation that she has been "particularly upset" over her relationship with Kate.

A source told Closer: "Meghan was particularly upset over the tension between her and Kate." They said that she had once hoped to have a "great friendship" but now feels "disappointment" over circumstances in their relationship.

"She felt there was so much potential for a great friendship, which is why she holds a lot more disappointment towards everything that happened. She said she's now just going to dust herself off, have closure and move forward, without ever having or expecting a reconciliation," the source said.

They added: "Meghan will not go back to them now to forgive and make peace with Kate, or any of the other royals and, while Harry understands how she feels, it's heartbreaking for him that he has to make these trips alone."

There was alleged tension between the two women in the lead-up to Meghan marrying Prince Harry in 2018, with there said to have been upset over flower girl dresses. It was once suggested that Meghan upset Kate, though the former proposed a different account when she was interviewed by Oprah Winfrey back in 2021. Meghan said: "A few days before [the] wedding, she was upset about something [related to] flower-girl dresses, and it made me cry."

Meghan later attracted attention over comments that she made about Kate and her husband Prince William, now 41, in the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, which was released through the streaming platform last year. It was suggested that she took aim at the couple's formalities in the show when she recalled meeting them. She said: "I was a hugger. I've always been a hugger, I didn't realise that that is really jarring for a lot of Brits."

There was further suggestion of possible tension in Prince Harry's memoir Spare, which was published earlier this year. He wrote that Meghan had allegedly upset Kate and Prince William by once suggesting Kate had "baby brain". The source told Closer that Meghan was "adamant" that she wouldn't return to the UK this week and it was claimed that she "refuses" to associate with the Royal Family. The source alleged that her and Prince Harry are upset that the family 'snubbed' her birthday last month, with the source saying it was the "straw that broke the camel's back" for Meghan.
