Strictly's Anton Du Beke teases viewers on Strictly couples ahead of launch show

Anton Du Beke has heightened the excitement of this year's Strictly Come Dancing competition after revealing the celebs have found out for the first time who they are being partnered with after filming the pre-recorded launch show.

Strictly judge Anton claimed the BBC show has done a "brilliant" job with the pairings for this series. The 57-year-old professional dancer, who became a father to twins six years ago, appeared on Lorraine and filled viewers in on the upcoming launch episode of the series. Anton told Lorraine: "Everything’s OK in the world, Strictly is back on. We have the launch show which we pre-record because it’s quite a technical thing, so we do it and on the 16th it is going to come out on BBC One."

He added: "Last night we filmed the launch show where everybody gets partnered up. It’s such a lovely bunch and when they’re in the room, the energy is incredible, the excitement is through the roof – I think they’ve done a brilliant job of partnering everybody up."

Anton has been waltzing on to the Strictly dance floor since it started and, in 2021, he was made a judge. As a professional dancer, one of his most memorable pairings was with Anne Widdecombe in 2010. Even by her own admission she struggled with the routines as she is "tone deaf". Anne became favoured for her lack of skill on the dance floor, despite her best efforts.

Despite some struggles with his pairings over the years, Anton has revealed the BBC show have got the couplings spot on for the coming series. He said: "It’s one of those things where you go, ‘I can’t have imagined them dancing with anyone else’, so it was perfect and it’s really, really exciting. The coupling is amazing, I can’t tell you.”

The 21st series of Strictly will see National Television Award winner Bobby Brazier among the contestants, alongside Paralympic champion Jody Cundy, former Coronation Street star Ellie Leach, and broadcaster Angela Rippon.

A total of 15 celebrities will compete against each other on the Strictly dance floor for the highly sought after Glitterball trophy. But Anton offered some advice to the hopefuls. He said: ”Enjoy the whole thing. Embrace it and take it all on and love every second of it, even when it’s really hard and your feet hurt and your brain is exploding and you might have had a bad weekend. But it’s fine because Monday morning we start again and it’s a new dance and we go again because it will be over in a flash… it is a once-in-a-lifetime thing and it is the most wonderful experience ever.”

Anton was recently the butt of a joke made by pro dancers Vincent Simone and Ian Waite. During their appearance on Good Morning Britain, Vincent said: ”We do have something that none of the other Strictly pros have – the size. You're the biggest ever and I'm the smallest ever.” And Ian took the opportunity took take a playful swipe at Anton for being one of the eldest Strictly stars. He said: ”Well, we can never be the oldest Vince, that's Anton Du Beke.” And Vincent then jokingly asked: ”Is he still alive?”
