The Crown fans vow to boycott show as Netflix final season teaser backfires
Fans of the hit Netflix historical drama The Crown have vowed to boycott the final season after early teaser details about the last episodes sparked a bitter backlash.
Viewers have been flocking to streaming giant Netflix since 2016 to lose themselves in the opulence and magnificence of the life story of late Queen Elizabeth II - who passed away aged 96 last year. The big budget show charts the late British Monarch’s rise to the throne in 1952 and covers major moments from her life over the decades - with the final season set to cover events from the late 1990s through to the early 2000s.
And while fans have been mesmerised by the dramatisation of Queen Elizabeth II’s life throughout the show, it seems highlights of other family members that are set to be dramatised in the final season of the series have left some fans fuming. Netflix announced earlier this week that season six of The Crown would be streaming “later this year” and teased: "a hint at what’s to come in our final season.”
The Crown teased that the 2005 wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla will feature in the final season of the show (X/Twitter)
Dominic West and Olivia Williams play Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles in season six of The Crown (Splash News)A still from the upcoming final batch of episodes showed the front page of an order of service for the marriage of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall. With the date of the nuptials set for Saturday 9 April 2005 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, there can be no mistake that the show will feature a dramatisation of the wedding day of current King Charles II and Queen Camilla.
But the news of the royal wedding being included in the last season has not sat well with some fans - who have vowed not to watch the episode. One fan hit out via X, formerly known as Twitter, to complain: “Must we see the marriage of Charles & Camilla?" - while another more bitterly wrote: "Thanks I’ll remember not to watch that episode."

Welsh actor Dominic West is set to portray then-Prince Charles in the scenes while the role of Camilla will be played by Olivia Williams. Queen Elizabeth II herself will be played in the final season by Imelda Staunton - however there have been rumours that Olivia Coleman and Claire Foy will feature as The Queen too, having played the parts in seasons 3-4 and 1-2 respectively.
The Crown has been a smash hit for Netflix - drawing in viewers from around the world and written by Oscar nominated The Queen writer Peter Morgan. The big-budget show is believed to cost £10 million per episode to make. However, biographers have slammed the series for it’s historical inaccuracies and apparent bias in the way it is written.
