It was a hectic summer transfer window at Liverpool, and the drama isn't over yet.

The Mohamed Salah speculation continues with the Saudi deadline for deals not expiring until Thursday night. Despite Jurgen Klopp, and the club, insisting their star striker is not for sale, Reds fans remain anxious as they brace themselves for a massive £200 million plus bid.

Klopp has spent more than £140 million himself on players this summer, but has also had to combat a number of high-profile departures, including club captain Jordan Henderson. There have also been 17 temporary outgoings though, with the German boss opting to cut his squad for 2023/24 by giving fringe players the chance to get game time elsewhere.

Here, Mirror Football looks at how each of those have fared since going elsewhere. And we'll see which seem best placed to return to Anfield and force their way into the frame...

After signing for Liverpool from Aberdeen last summer, the Scottish international full back made just two cup appearances before being ruled out for the season following surgery.

Sent to Preston North End to get game time in 2023/24, only to see his fitness nightmare continue. Before being able to get going at Deepdale, the 20-year-old was ruled out for 6-8 weeks with another injury problem, and remains on the sidelines.

Fabio Carvalho

The most high-profile of Liverpool's loan departures this summer was undoubtedly Carvalho, who voiced his discontent on Instagram after struggling for game time last season.

HAVE YOUR SAY! Which of the players loaned out can make it at Liverpool? Comment below.

The ex-Fulham star could not have started better at RB Leipzig, appearing as a substitute as they beat Bayern Munich 3-0 to win the German Super Cup. In the three Bundesliga games since however, the forward has been unused.

Any advice from Klopp may be short and sweet though, after Carvalho admitted the two aren't on speaking terms. "I don’t really speak to him, to be fair. He didn’t really give me any advice. I just had to learn as I go, and I feel that is better for me to mature anyway."

Rhys Williams

After three successive loan spells at Kidderminster Harriers, Swansea, and Blackpool, Williams is another in Scotland with Aberdeen.

But he's yet to kick a competitive ball in anger, not even in the League Cup match at Stirling Albion. Barring a turnaround up North, the 22-year-old is unlikely to surge back into the fold at Anfield next season.

Harvey Davies

Here's one youngster who has got some action - the keeper playing in all six of Crewe's League Two games so far.

He's conceded 10 times thus far, but the 20-year-old was also the hero of his side's EFL League Cup win at Sunderland. He saved a penalty, helping his new side win a penalty shoot-out 5–3 after a 1–1 draw.

Owen Beck

Left back Beck, 21, is another in the Scottish Premiership with Dundee.

And his form has been solid so far. He's featured in seven games for the club, and was deemed their Player of the Match in Sunday's 2-2 draw at St Johnstone.

Sepp van den Berg

After spending last season on loan at Mainz and making nine Bundesliga appearances, the 20-year-old Dutch defender returned to Klopp's former club for 2023/24.

However, his sole game so far in this campaign has come for Mainz II. He may get the game time he craves over the coming months, but it looks unlikely to come at first team level.

Anderson Arroyo

He signed for Liverpool in 2018 but after no league appearances and six loan spells elsewhere, Arroyo's time at Anfield looked up.

But no, the 23-year-old is on a seventh stint elsewhere, this time in the Segunda Division with FC Andorra. The club are ninth after four games, with Arroyo playing in two of them.

James Balagizi

After a spell at Crawley Town was cut short by injury last season, the 19-year-old midfielder is now at Wigan.

It's been anything but easy, with the Latics in the bottom three with just two points from six games. Balagizi however, impressed after coming on as second half sub at Blackpool on Saturday, and was one of the few bright spots for his team in a 2-1 defeat.

Dominic Corness

Nicknamed 'the wand' at Liverpool due to his passing ability, Corness has been at the club since he was five.

And 15 years later, the midfielder has been sent to Swiss Super League side Yverdon. He's been confined to a bit-part role so far, making four substitute appearances.

Adam Lewis

Another now more than used to going out on loan, and has rejoined Newport County after a productive 2022/23 season there.

And the 23-year-old, who can play as both a left or a winger, is progressing well again this time around. He's notched a goal and an assist in his six appearances so far in this campaign.

Jakub Ojrzynski

From Caernarfon Town to Radomiak Radom and now to Den Bosch, the Polish keeper has been given varied experience since joining Liverpool from Legia Warsaw in 2020.

But the 20-year-old is yet to displace No 1 keeper Joey Roggeveen so far. In fact, he's not seen a second of first team action in Holland's second tier division.

Luke Hewitson

Another keeper, but one who is actually featuring for his new club albeit in the Northern Premier West League.

Hewitson, 18, made his debut for Stalybridge Celtic in the FA Cup 3-2 win at Runcorn Linnets, and retained his place for the four league clashes that followed. He's conceded nine times in that period, but his getting valuable minutes nonetheless ahead of his scheduled January return.

Billy Koumetio

French defender Koumetio is back in his homeland in Ligue 2 with USL Dunkerque.

The 20-year-old only arrived at his new club last week though, so has had no time to make an appearance or an impression. Having been capped by his country at Under 18 level though, he's highly rated.

Klopp has tipped him for a big future in the game, he will hope to see evidence of his prediction coming true soon.

Nathaniel Phillips

Phillips, 26, has failed to feature regularly since making 17 league appearances in Liverpool's injury-stricken 2020/21 season.

But the centre back's latest loan move to Celtic should give him the opportunity to perform in pressure situations. Having only moved on August 31 though, there was no Old Firm debut for the player on Sunday - and like Hewitson the deal only lasts until January.

James Norris

Another left back shipped out, this time down the road at Tranmere.

Norris, 20, has two cup appearances for the Reds, and sealed a deadline day switch to the League Two team. He made his debut on Tuesday night in the Football League Trophy clash at Fleetwood, but he was subbed before the end amid a 2-0 defeat.

Luca Stephenson

Like Norris, the 19-year-old moved on deadline day, joining League Two club Barrow.

Also like Norris, he made his first start in an EFL Trophy game on Tuesday, at home to Blackpool. And yes, also like Norris, he was taken off in the second half in a 2-0 loss.

Tyler Morton

The last of the players to head out the door at Melwood on deadline day, meaning he wasn't eligible for Hull's shock 1-0 win at Leicester on Saturday.

But the 20-year-old Morton is back on the stage where he excelled for much of the 2022/23 campaign. He made 40 appearances with Blackburn last season, also on loan, helping them to the brink of the play-offs.
