Piers Morgan was in such a good mood at the National Television Awards on Tuesday night that he didn’t seem to care that the entire O2 arena appeared to furiously boo him.
The 58-year-old broadcaster flashed a beaming smile when host Joel Dommett, 38, pointed him out in the star studded audience. But when cameras cut to the former Good Morning Britain host, the live arena audience erupted into boos.
Unfazed, Piers only seemed to smile harder and laughed off the perhaps entirely predictable reaction. Joel then joked that the live audience should let Piers know how they really felt about the broadcaster - sparking fresh waves of negative noises.
This wasn't the first time Piers was booed - just half an hour later a clip of his interview with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also prompted the audience to erupt into boos.
Piers was smartly dressed at the event, wearing a black suit and taking a seat among fellow nominees. He was nominated in the TV Interview category for his show Piers Morgan Uncensored, which airs on the Rupert Murdock owned TalkTV network.

Piers Morgan looked unfazed when the NTA crowd booed him (ITV)His show, which has reportedly struggled in terms of ratings, has been on air since April last year. And during the time it has been available to watch Piers has sat down for major chats with political figures including former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, current British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Piers faces off against Louis Theroux and his BBC documentary series Louis Theroux Interviews... comedian Chris Ramsey and his wife for their BBC show The Chris & Rosie Ramsey Show, and charming late night talkshow king Graham Norton for his BBC series The Graham Norton Show for the award. Piers ultimately lost out to Graham Norton.
Piers was larking around on the red carpet ahead of the awards as he jostled with fellow presenter Dermot O’Leary, 50, who he jokingly appeared to contest to a fight. The older man clenched his fist and shook it in Dermot’s face, who smoothly laughed it off before the two posed for smiles together in front of cameras.

He shared a snap of himself looking uncomfortable on the notoriously hot Jubilee Line as he raced across the capital to get to the awards in time for the 8pm kick off.
And as well as jokingly threatening Dermot on the red carpet, he also cosied up to former Good Morning Britain co-star Susanna Reid, as she was also attending the awards. The former co-presenters looked happy to see each other as they posed together outside the O2.
Piers shared a snap of himself beaming alongside Susanna as they waited to go into the venue. He shared the photograph via Instagram alongside a caption stating: “Good Evening Britain!”
