Kate Middleton was told to step back for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during the Queen's funeral

As the anniversary of the death of Queen Elizabeth II approaches this week, we're looking back on an awkward moment between Kate Middleton and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex during the late monarch's funeral.

During last year's historic funeral there was an air of confusion over where all the Royal Family members were meant to sit at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. During the service there was an awkward moment when Prince William needed to direct his family on where they had to walk to sit down, with Kate accidentally sitting too early and blocking the Sussexes.

Kate was told by Prince William to pause, but she was unaware of what he was telling her and continued to walk down the aisle of seats. Prince William then pointed out to his wife that she needed to step back to let Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle pass through first.

Princess Charlotte then came down to sit next to her uncle Prince Harry with the two sharing a sweet moment as she fixed her hat before looking over at Harry. Harry then looked up and locked eyes with Charlotte and smiled at the seven-year-old princess.

A year on from the awkward seating incident, Meghan and Kate are reported to have a tension that runs much deeper. It's been reported the Sussexes may never permanently move to England because of Meghan's refusal to "curtsy" for Kate once the princess becomes Queen. It has also been reported that Kate is the reason why Meghan didn't visit Balmoral following the Queen's health issues and death.

According to an insider, Meghan feels that Kate has "never been held accountable" for the way she treated her during her time in the Royal Family. They said: "Meghan feels they've never been held accountable for the way they treated her when she was part of the royals, have never apologised and have seemingly got away with it."

As the first anniversary of the Queen's death approaches this upcoming Friday, the Royal Family are all paying tribute to Queen Elizabeth II in their own ways. It has been reported that Kate and William will be publicly leading the nation's tribute on the anniversary of the Queen's death. The Prince and Princess of Wales' final plans are still being decided including whether or not the speech will be in person or over social media for her millions of fans.
