Unless you are passionate about your crockery or have made it a tradition to spend your Sundays polishing plates, your dinner set might have suffered a few scratches. Those pesky grey marks are a real mystery, and look unsightly on white dinnerware, but one cleaning fan has shared a top tip to make plates sparkle like new and remove the grey scratch marks.

Joel, who goes by @ on TikTok shared a £5 hack that will leave plates gleaming. The incredibly useful video has been watched by 2.9 million viewers, as people love the hack. In the video, Joel shows white dinner plates covered in grey scratches and says: "Do you also have old plates like these? If you're like me you thought they were scratched beyond repair. Well, think again."

The content creator explained that for years he thought that scratches were coating he'd scrapped off the plate but had recently learned that was not the case. He added: "‘Today I learned that these grey scratches are actually metal streaks left behind by your knives and other cutlery and can be literally wiped off."

Taking the miracle product Bar Keepers Friend and sprinkling it on a wet plate, Joel proceeded to wipe half the plate that he'd covered and which erased the grey scratches. The remaining half which he didn't apply the product was still covered in grey scratch marks.

The man joked that he felt like a "magician" and felt "shook" after he took a micro-fibre cloth to the plate with the product on and it came out sparkling. He added: "Bar Keepers Friend is now also my friend." Amazed viewers were wowed by the instant effect of the product and one person commented: "OMG I can't believe this! I just cleaned my Le Creuset set which I thought was scratched to buggery and now looks new."

While another added: "The way that I just ran into my kitchen to try this. It works." Many have said an alternative for those who don't have Bar Keepers Friend in their countries is The Pink Stuff. Others have also suggested magic eraser sponges but experiences have varied.
