National Television Awards host Joel Dommett has said it is likely he will miss the award's afterparty tonight as his wife is heavily pregnant.

The Masked Singer presenter is returning to host the ceremony at London’s O2 arena for the third year and joked it would be his “dream” if model wife Hannah Cooper went into labour while he is presenting the live show on ITV1. Appearing on This Morning ahead of his NTA duties tonight, host Holly Willoughby joked: “If The Masked Singer wins you’ll be overexcited, she’ll [Hannah] be delighted and her waters could break at any moment. You don’t need any sort of unexpected surprises.”

Joel then jokingly replied: “It’s my dream. If that happens and I arrive at the hospital in a tuxedo!” Carrying on the joke, he said: “Repair Show could do the sewing. Someone from Casualty, who’s not even qualified, could get involved too.” The 38-year-old comic added Piers Morgan could “keep everyone at bay”, while magician turned presenter Stephen Mulhern – who was recently unveiled as the new host of Deal or No Deal – could “do some tricks”.

In another interview, Joel was asked by Capital Radio’s Roman Kemp if he would be attending any after parties following the NTAs tonight, which will see stars of British TV battle it out for the prestigious awards.

“Well my wife is so heavily pregnant, I don’t think I’m gonna go. I think I’m just going to have an after party with a sort of woman that can’t move easily – that sounded weird didn’t it!” Joel replied. As the studio erupted into laughter, Roman said: “Yes, that did sound very strange,” before Joel clarified: “Yeah, I think she might actually be there. We thought she was gonna do the red carpet and stuff, but it’s hard being pregnant, it’s really hard!”

Revealing how he and Hannah had been preparing for parenthood, the comedian said they had already adopted a ‘liquid gold’ morning routine. Explaining what he meant, Joel said: “There’s this amazing thing called colostrum, which is like a thing that happens to women when they’re pregnant.” He continued: “It’s the first milk and they call it liquid gold. And it’s literally golden. Honestly, I have to collect that in the mornings in a little syringe from the nip. I just say to her every time, ‘I really want to taste this’.

“It’s very nutritious and so I do that every morning. I collect it... it’s my new favourite thing. I love it! You put it in the freezer. I’ve got syringes in my freezer like a scientist! It’s like really, really good stuff.”

Explaining how it had already changed him before the baby has even arrived, Joel said: “They call it ‘harvesting’. So every morning I’m like, ‘ready to harvest wife?’ And we harvest. I know people say when you have a child, it changes your life. It’s already changed my life!”

Joel and wife Hannah met when she slid into his DMs with a cat face emoji back in 2016 and they married three years later in a ceremony conducted by Love Island voiceover man Iain Stirling in Mykonos, Greece. In May this year, the couple announced they were expecting a baby in a sweet Instagram post. Black and white photos taken in a photo booth showed Joel kissing Hannah’s already growing bump. Hannah joked in the caption: “Does anyone know how to change a nappy? Because Joel has s**t himself.“
