A tiny Welsh seaside town is giving visitors a real Greek experience thanks to its golden sandy beaches, pastel-coloured houses and a warm welcome for tourists.

Tenby in Pembrokeshire, south-east Wales, has risen to fame after being likened to Symi, an Aegean island in Greece that sits close to Rhodes. Both destinations play host to strings of colourful houses, numerous gorgeous beaches and fantastic seafood restaurants.

Travel blogger Angela Price has compared destinations across the UK to holiday hotspots around the world. She said: "Both locations have golden sands, colourful buildings, delicious fish restaurants, and warmly welcomed tourists."

The Sun reports she added: "Tenby also has 13th-century town walls, castle ruins, and a tidal island with a Napoleonic fort! Admittedly, the sun won’t shine as much as in Greece, but you will still have a great holiday."

Symi is a fishing island famous for its sea sponge industry. Merchants sell Symian sponges – natural loofahs formed in the sea – all along the Port. There is even a small sponge factory to visit. Local residents own most of the colourful houses in Tenby, but there's a lot more on offer than to take in views of the buildings. Tourists can enjoy other activities including Tenby Museum and Art Gallery, St Mary's Church, and coastal walks.

Tenby is home to three beaches including Castle Beach, North Beach, and South Beach. Castle Beach is a sandy beach where holidaymakers can catch a boat to the neighbouring island of Caldey. Caldey Island is owned by monks and is home to a grand monastery, with day-trippers welcomed onto the island from Easter until October. The Welsh city of Swansea is around an hour's drive from Tenby and a two-hour drive from Cardiff, the capital of Wales. There is also a train station in the seaside town with direct services to Swansea.

There are plenty of accommodation options in Tenby including hotel chains, holiday rentals, and campsites. Holidaymakers can book an overnight stay at places such as the local Premier Inn.
