Liverpool face a difficult end to a disastrous season and an even more important summer ahead in a huge challenge in Jurgen Klopp's tenure.

The Reds are all-but out of the Champions League following a heavy and eye-opening thumping at the hands of Real Madrid in midweek as their quest for silverware sank without trace.

Klopp's side must now pick themselves back up for the trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday evening as they bid to get their Premier League season back on track in an attempt to land a top four spot.

Here is the latest news from around Anfield.

Klopp opens up on rebuild

Klopp has admitted the club will spend money in the summer and overhaul their squad but it's not as simple as just splashing the cash.

A number of Liverpool's players could find their futures in jeopardy, including the likes of Fabinho, while others, such as Roberto Firmino and Naby Keita, are out of contract in the summer.

While Klopp is adamant Liverpool must sell before they can buy, it seems the club's owners are prepared to put their hands in their pockets this summer and invest in new signings.

Among those being touted with a switch to Anfield include Borussia Dortmund's sought-after midfielder Jude Bellingham, with Liverpool believed to be leading the race with Real Madrid for his signature.

Perhaps a more surprising acquisition would be that of Bellingham's England teammate Mason Mount, however. The Chelsea star is currently in a standoff with the London club following their raft of new arrivals and is out of contract next summer.

That could put Mount on the market at a cut-price in the coming months with Liverpool hotly-tipped to swoop. Here's how the Reds could look with some of their targets in the squad next season.

Karius' redemption

It's a moment which remains etched in the minds of Liverpool fans everywhere - though not more so than it does for their former goalkeeper Loris Karius.

The German stopper was the fall guy in the ill-fated Champions League final defeat to Real back in 2018, when he made two howlers in a 3-1 defeat and never recovered.

After several spells out on loan, Karius could now have a chance to try and partially redeem himself though, as he seems set to deputise between the sticks for Newcastle against Manchester United in Sunday's Carabao Cup final.

Here's a look at the story behind the forgotten keeper and where the final could be won and lost.
