One of Major League Soccer’s brightest talents looks to be closing in on a transfer to European football giants Barcelona.
The summer transfer window remains open for the majority of the leagues across Europe. The deadline for Spanish clubs in La Liga is on Friday, September 1, with a number of its clubs still looking to do business.
Barcelona appear to be one of them, with the five-time Champions League winners reportedly looking to strengthen their defence. And it seems that the Camp Nou club is looking to Los Angeles FC for reinforcements.
According to , Barcelona are in advanced talks to sign centre-back Mamadou Fall. It has been claimed that Barca are exploring a loan deal with an option to buy but does state that no deal has been agreed upon just yet.
This is where the report goes on to say that a deal to secure Fall as Barca’s latest signing is far from completion. La Liga rivals Villarreal are also mentioned as showing an interest in signing the 20-year-old defender.

Fall spent the 2022/23 season on loan with Villarreal’s reserve team, who play in the second tier of Spanish football. And it seems that the club still hold an interest in the player, who made 25 appearances as well as another team for Villarreal’s first team.
The centre-back is widely regarded as one of the brightest defensive prospects in MLS at the moment. Fall was signed by LAFC in the summer of 2021 from Costa Rica club Monteverde and has made 42 appearances with six goals and one assist from defence.
With almost an entire career ahead to look forward to for Fall, the player has previously admitted who his footballing heroes are. Both are also regarded as two of the best defenders to ever set foot on the pitch.

“My idol is Paolo Maldini,” Fall told in March 2022. “ I didn’t get a chance to watch him play, but I went to YouTube to watch him and fell in love. He wasn’t fast, but he was smart. After that, I fell in love with the way Sergio Ramos plays.”
LAFC’s next game is at home to Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami on Sunday night in MLS. It remains to be seen if Fall will still be part of the roster by the time kick-off rolls around at the BMO Stadium.
