Gravenberch makes mind up on Liverpool transfer after private talks with Klopp

Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch is keen on joining Liverpool following talks with Jurgen Klopp.

The 21-year-old has been on the Reds radar all summer but has also been the subject of interest from Manchester United, who also have designs on bolstering their engine room before Friday's transfer deadline.

But with United choosing to firm up their interest in Sofyan Amrabat on Wednesday evening, Liverpool have now opened negotiations with Bayern over a permanent deal for Gravenberch, who is desperate to play regular football this year after starting just three matches in the Bundesliga last season for the German giants.

According to BILD, Gravenberch wants to complete a transfer to Anfield after holding private talks with Klopp, who is convinced that the Dutchman is the perfect solution to the Reds' current engine room issues.

The report goes on to outline that a €30million (£25m) bid from Liverpool is expected to be lodged imminently with time running out ahead of the transfer deadline.

Klopp's planned midfield rebuild has encountered major problems this summer, with the Liverpool boss losing the services of both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to clubs from the Saudi Pro League. That means the Reds, despite completing deals for Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo, are still short on options in the middle of the park.

Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in Amrabat this summer, with the midfielder expected to leave Fiorentina before Friday. Manchester United are still believed to be the favourites to land the 27-year-old, though, despite the fact their opening bid was rejected.

After snubbing Manchester United to sign for Bayern last year, Gravenberch has struggled for regular game time in Munich. Gravenberch had admitted earlier in the week that he "didn't know" whether or not he would be given the green light to seek a transfer before the weekend.

The former Ajax midfielder hinted that he was looking for more minutes this season when he was asked about his future following speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League.

In an interview with Dutch media outlet De Telegraaf conducted last month, Gravenberch said: “It may be that there are plans with me. I haven't really talked to the coach about that yet, that will come after the [Under-21] European Championship when I'm back from Georgia and Romania. Then we will see how it is.”
