Love Island couple announce split as Islander admits she's 'gutted'

Love Island stars Mitchel Taylor and Ella Barnes have split, just weeks on from the summer series of the ITV2 coming to an end last month.

The former couple found themselves dumped from the Spanish villa just days before the big final on July 31 after the pair were voted least compatible by the other islanders. Mitch, 27, and Ella, 23, enjoyed a rocky relationship before making things official, with Mitch previously with Abi Moores before striking up a romance with Ella.

Mitch and Ella kept their relationship going after being booted out of the villa, with the two Love Island stars sharing loved-up snaps on social media as recently as two weeks ago. However, it's all over for the reality TV pairing - with Ella breaking the news online this morning.

In a statement shared to her Instagram post today, Ella told fans: “Just wanted to come on here and keep you all updated, as you deserve to know as I wouldn’t be where I am without you. Unfortunately myself and Mitch have decided to end our relationship. I really wanted thing s to work out and I’m gutted that our journey has come to an end.

Ella continued to pen: "I wish Mitch all the best and hope he finds happiness. It’s time for both of us to start a new chapter. Thank you so much for all the love and support. It means the world to me. Lots of love, Ella xx."

Shortly after Ella's initial post, Mitch also took to his Instagram Stories to confirm the break-up, telling his followers: "Morning everyone. As you have most likely seen Ella's post sadly our relationship has come to an end. We had no intentions of ending, but with out [sic] busy life's [sic] at this moment and living the other side of the country made it extremely hard for it to work. I wish Ella nothing but the best as she is a lovely girl and deserves the world."

Mitch and Ella came under fire from Love Island fans earlier this month thanks to their appearance together on the ITV2 reunion show. Despite the now former couple putting on a loved-up display when chatting to host Maya Jama and fellow islanders, viewers were quick to accuse the pair of indulging in a showmance.

"Sorry but Mitch and Ella feel so fake #loveisland," one fan penned on Twitter (aka X) as the show aired on August 7, with another adding: "#Ellab and #Mitch clearly saw what we all said about them being sat a mile apart at #Aftersun cos they're glued to each other now lol. Surely they know we can see right through this. Mitch and Ella are so fake."
