Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton could stay at Anfield beyond Friday's transfer deadline despite loan interest from a number of Championship clubs.

Morton, 20, enjoyed a fruitful loan in the second tier last term with Blackburn Rovers, where he clocked up 40 appearances for a team who only missed out on a place in the play-offs on the final day of the season.

Unsurprisingly, Morton's impressive stint at Ewood Park did not go unnoticed in the Championship. After recovering from a broken foot over the summer, Morton was expected to head back out on loan - but it now seems increasingly likely that Jurgen Klopp will keep the youngster around.

According to The Athletic, Klopp is ready to keep Morton at Anfield as cover after losing the services of both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson this summer. The report goes on to outline that Hull City were in pole position to clinch Morton's signature before the club's change of heart.

Although the Reds are light on numbers in their engine room, it's unclear if their stance on Morton would change if they are able to strike a deal for Ryan Gravenberch with Bayern Munich.

The 21-year-old has been touted as a Liverpool transfer target for weeks and negotiations were opened with the German giants on Wednesday evening in a bid to reach an agreement.

A move for Gravenberch comes just weeks after the Reds were snubbed by Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, who both decided to join Chelsea. After starting the season without a natural No.6, Liverpool signed Wataru Endo from Stuttgart earlier this month.

Klopp has already made it clear that he is a big fan of Morton, who has been identified as a player with a bright future at Anfield. Speaking back in 2021 after handing Morton his Champions League debut, Klopp said: "Tyler is obviously a real talent, a real smart footballer. You can see this. His natural movements, natural positions, are really good, so he is a real football-smart boy and the technique is really good.

"He has a brilliant football brain — if he gets to the gym and gets a body he will be some football player! It was a big pleasure to watch the boy playing. The football knowledge and the football brain he showed tonight was absolutely exceptional."
