A family of four was found dead in their home in an apparent murder-suicide case just weeks after losing their four-year-old child in a tragic accident.

The heartbreaking incident unfolded involving a family that had already been dealing with the loss of their four-year-old daughter to drowning earlier in the month. Tragically, this situation took an even darker turn as the family was discovered dead in what appears to be a murder-suicide.

The bodies of four family members, identified as the father, Farman Sherwani, the mother, Layla Sherwani, their 12-year-old son, Shaheen Sherwani, and their 2-year-old son, Mateen Sherwani, were found inside their home.

The series of events began when a distressed family member, who turned out to be the grandmother, contacted the police. She had been locked out of the home for about two hours and couldn't get any response from inside.

Jacqueline Soto, a neighbour, recalled the grandmother's distress, and police were soon joined by additional family members who arrived at the scene. Their attempts to console the grandmother highlighted the emotional turmoil surrounding the situation. She told Fox4: "She was just really distraught. Just trying to, I guess, control the grandmother who was incredibly upset herself."

Eventually, law enforcement gained access to the home in Allen, Texas, and discovered the tragic scene. While it has been confirmed as a murder-suicide involving gunshots, the exact identity of the perpetrator has not been officially disclosed by the police.

The family had also faced the recent loss of their four-year-old daughter, Lyian Sherwani, to a drowning incident. Although the details of this earlier tragedy aren't fully outlined, authorities believe that this loss significantly contributed to the events leading up to the murder-suicide on Monday.

Members of the community, including the religious congregation that the family was a part of, were deeply affected by this shocking turn of events, in Aberdeen Drive.. Abdul Rahman Bashir, the religious director at the local mosque, expressed the community's shock and sorrow.

He told NBC News: "Waking up to the news of losing a four-member family all of a sudden is not something that anyone can be prepared for, family members or let alone anyone in the community, so it's been a very heavy day for everyone in the community."

He emphasized that the family had been very close-knit, living near one another and supporting each other through difficult times. Bashir noted that the family had already been struggling in the wake of their daughter's drowning.

A funeral for the family was held on Tuesday. Tragically, this wasn't the first time that this congregation had experienced such a devastating event. Two years prior, they had also lost a family of six in a murder-suicide. In light of these tragedies, the congregation is offering mental health resources and support for its members.

Abdul Rahman Bashir said: "As the father of three children myself, it's something very hard to digest and grapple with the gravity of the situation, what the family may have been going through.

"We just continue to encourage the community to be there for each other during this time of sorrow and grief and we also encourage the community to cherish their family members and the moments that they have and be cognizant of the uncertainty of life."
