A diner has left people in stitches after revealing the brutal message they spotted on a restaurant receipt. Sharing the hilarious photo to Reddit, the restaurant-goer captioned the picture: "My dinner receipt had a message for me…" before leaving users to spot the problem for themselves.

Unsurprisingly, it didn't take long. Among the usual culprits you'd expect to find on a receipt, like a chicken dish and ice cream, which cost £18 and £3 respectively, there was another, rather rude, addition. The final item on the receipt, priced at £15, was titled: "You're an a*****e." Thankfully, the description was not left by an angry waiter hoping to get revenge on their customer as some may have suspected.

In fact, the customer only had themselves to thank for the receipt. As the diner revealed in a comment: "My wife and I went to a restaurant for her birthday and we both had cocktails. I completely forgot the name of the cocktail by the time the receipt came but its name was 'You're an A*****e, Mr. Burton' lmao it definitely caught me by surprise."

Delighted by the gaff, one commenter wrote: "I wish we could charge customers for being a*****s. We would make so much money." "I genuinely wish wait staff could just tack on service charges like this," a second agreed. "You got ripped off, I get called an a****e for free all the time," a third joked.

Meanwhile, someone in the know commented: "Oddly enough, I researched the restaurant; you'd think there'd be a better way of labelling a drink on a ticket." But another wrote: "Kudos to whomever programmed the POS. The cocktail's full name is You're an a****e, Mr. Burton. That doesn't fit on the receipt. The receipt could have spit out Mr. Burton or You're…Mr. Burton , but - no - whoever typed this in showed serious commitment to staying on message."
