A student who received £5,000 from Jack Grealish to go towards leukaemia treatment has passed away.

Dylan Lamb, 20, was diagnosed with Precursor T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia earlier this year after visiting his doctor with lower back pain. A GoFundMe page was set up to raise funds to head to America for life-saving treatment but his friends confirmed he died on Saturday.

"He went in his sleep with his family by his side, having said his goodbyes to all of his friends the day before and he was still full of laughs and jokes," a post on social media read.

"I cannot put into words the love that us lads and Dylan's family have felt through this difficult time. We cannot thank everyone enough for the continued support and love.

"I hope we have done you proud bro and I hope you know that we will always love you."

England and Manchester City star Grealish made the generous donation in July to Dylan, whose mother hailed his support as "tremendous". The GoFundMe page has raised over £170,000 while his close friends also completed the Three Peaks earlier this month, raising a further £65,000.

Mr Lamb from Burton-upon-Trent was in his first year at University of Liverpool when he was diagnosed with the condition that predominantly affects young men.

Having suffered with "unbearable" pain for some time, Dylan was initially given pain killers by his GP before going to A&E with his mum. Days later he was undergoing chemotherapy before being told he would need a stem cell transplant.

His family and friends had hoped to raise £1m to get him to the United States for CAR-T treatment, which was not available to him in the UK. Close friend Fred Trevelyan said: "He's a key member of our group all of us lads we're like a family and none of us could do life without him."

Heavyweight boxer Frazer Clarke was among those to pay tribute on social media after his passing while Dylan's aunt Karen posted: "Rest in peace my beautiful darling."
