Meghan Markle's wedding dress designer has opened up about the Duchess of Sussex's iconic wedding dress, which she wore to wed Prince Harry.

Claire Waight Keller shed new light on the stunning Givenchy frock, which wowed the world over thanks to its chic, timeless style.

Waight Keller, who was the first female artistic director of Givenchy, revealed new details about the iconic gown in the interview with Vanity Fair.

She spilled on where Meghan's 'something blue' was secretly sewn into her dress and King Charles's appreciation of her beautiful veil and its link to the Commonwealth.

Speaking about Meghan's 'something blue', Waight Keller shared: "We basically sewed it into the hem of the wedding dress, so she was the only one that knew that it was there. It was a little blue gingham check."

Elaborating further, Waight Keller added: "It was the perfect personal memento that was secretly hidden inside the dress."

Meghan had previously touched on the secret bit of blue fabric that was sewn into her wedding dress, but had only alluded to where it was stitched.

Speaking in HBO's Queen of the World documentary, Meghan, 42, shared: "Somewhere in here there’s a piece of blue fabric that’s stitched inside — it was my something blue,” she said while inspecting the dress for the first time since her royal wedding day. “It’s fabric from the dress that I wore on our first date."

Opening up further to Vanity Fair, Waight Keller talked about King Charles's appreciation of her dress. She shared that it meant so much to the soon-to-be husband and wife and Charles that her cathedral-length veil had embroidered flowers sewn into it, representing each of the 53 countries in the Commonwealth.

Waight Keller, who left Givenchy in 2020 and is launching her new label Uniqlo: C in September, divulged: "[Meghan] felt like she was bringing an element of each of those countries down the aisle with her. So that her new role — and that bridge to the new role — was captured in what she was wearing."

She added: "King Charles was just in awe of the dress and the [veil] embroidery, and he asked me about it while we were waiting inside the nave."

Meghan was walked down the aisle by King Charles due to her father Thomas Markle's ill health during that time. Days before the wedding Meghan confirmed reports that her father was ill and said he wouldn't be attending the ceremony at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle and asked that he be "given the space he needs to focus on his health".
