Sinéad O'Connor's family issue heartbreaking statement one month after her death

Sinéad O'Connor's family have thanked her 'kind' fans for offering their condolences and endless support after the singer's tragic death last month.

Th Nothing Compares 2 U singer was found dead at the age of 56 at her London apartment on July 26, leaving her fans across the world shocked and devastated as tributes poured in from stars far and wide including Russell Crowe, Toni Collette, and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Over one month after Sinead's sad passing, her family have issued a heartbreaking statement to the late singer's adoring fans. On the noticeboard of The Irish Times newspaper, the Mandinka hitmaker's family expressed gratitude to those who were involved in the funeral arrangements and the ceremony, as well as her fans and the media.

"The children of Sinéad together with Sinéad's extended family wish to thank the countless kind people who sympathised and offered condolences on Sinéad's recent passing. Their helpful support for the family is much appreciated," the statement read.

Sinead's devastated family went on to thank a number of people in the statement, including the Irish President Michael D. Higgins, who attended her funeral. "Our thanks to the media personnel in general at home and abroad who celebrated Sinéad in song and story while showing respect for the privacy requested by the family. We ask that this privacy continue to be respected," the statement continued.

"Finally, we wish to thank Sinéad's fans and admirers for the wonderful funeral procession they gave her past her old home in Bray and for the national and international outpouring of love and affection for Sinéad from the time of her passing. The prayers and thanks of the extended O'Connor family are with you all."

Earlier this month, thousands of people lined the streets of Sinead's former home in Bray to pay respects to the iconic singer, who was laid to rest in a traditional Muslim burial at a Catholic ceremony following a private funeral. U2's Bono and Bob Geldof were just some of the attendees at the closed service, which was led by Imam Umar Al-Qadri. Ireland's president Michael Higgins and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar were also present at the Islamic funeral.

Sinead, who suffered from multiple mental health issues throughout her life, is survived by her children Jake Reynolds, 34, Roisín Waters, 27, and sixteen-year-old Yeshua Bonadio. She tragically lost her third child, 17-year-old Shane Lunny, to suicide last year.

The singer became Muslim in 2018 and changed her name to Shuhada Sadaqat, calling the decision to convert to Islam the 'natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian's journey'. She had been ordained as a Catholic priest in 1999, after her controversial ripping up of Pope John Paul II's photo on Saturday Night Live in 1992.
