This is the terrifying moment a man whips out a fake gun at a hotel in Magaluf he used to threaten unsuspecting holidaymakers with.

Police today released images of the Spanish national while confirming he had been arrested following a manhunt. He has been accused of creating a situation of “panic and tension”. The victims had no idea if the gun was real or fake at the time of the ordeal.

Detectives said today the gun was “very similar” to a real weapon but was actually a replica Glock pistol. They also revealed the suspect, who they described as a “well-known criminal” who had committed violent crimes before, had been held earlier this year after attempting to attack several strangers in the street with a large knife.

The gun incident happened last Thursday at an unnamed hotel in Magaluf. A spokesman for the Civil Guard said today: “The Civil Guard has arrested a Spanish national for allegedly threatening other people with a replica firearm. On August 24 the suspect burst into a hotel complex in Magaluf armed with a pistol which he pointed at people creating a situation of panic and tension, before fleeing the scene.

“Officers launched an investigation to clarify what had happened and identify the suspect. It was discovered he had used the weapon discriminately and without any apparent motive, carrying out the action of loading the weapon and pointing it at people who he crossed paths with. After recovering and analysing the CCTV cameras, he was identified as a well-known criminal with a history of violent crimes who months earlier had been involved in a similar altercation in which he had tried to attack people on the street with a large bladed weapon. He was tracked down and arrested the day after the incident in Algaida in central Majorca and a replica GLOCK pistol which was very similar to a real weapon seized from him.”

It was not immediately clear today if he had already appeared in court and whether he had been remanded in custody or released on bail.
