American golfer Patrick Reed has expressed his love for the controversial LIV Golf tour in a post on Instagram. The nine-time PGA Tour winner joined the Saudi-backed league in 2022 after resigning from the tour for a lucrative contract.
Reed's move came after the league was created in June 2022 as a rival to the PGA Tour. Golfers including Dustin Johnson, Sergio García, Martin Kaymer and Graeme McDowell were among the first players to defect, seeing Reed join ahead of the tour's second event.
Golfers who defected were subsequently banned from PGA events, causing a divide between players who remained loyal and those choosing to leave. Reed, however, is still pleased with his decision and has spoken highly of the tour in a post on social media.
"I was visiting with my children last night, and I must say my heart is warmed," Reed posted in an Instagram caption alongside photos of himself at LIV Golf events.
"I listened as they reminisced with smiles and longing about the recent @livgolf_league tournament held at @The_Greenbrier, and it’s just very telling of what this league does. As a family, we’re able to #makememories together."

The 33-year-old went on to list six reasons why he enjoys playing on the controversial tour.

Reed went on to add: "There’s a list of great things to love! Even playing Friday-Sunday adds to the ease. If you haven’t attended, there are just a few left this season, and I really think fans of this sport are sure to enjoy. IYKYK (If you know you know)."
LIV Golf and the PGA Tour have since agreed a shock merger which has ended an ongoing litigation battle. LIV Golfers have since been allowed to re-join PGA events following the completion of the 2023 season.
Reed is due to be in action at the next LIV Golf event in Chicago at Rich Harvest Farms which starts on September 22.
