If you've ever travelled on an overnight flight, then you'll know that the airline often does whatever it can to make sure you're able to drift off to sleep in peace, including turning the lights off in the cabin. For many travellers, being able to take a nap on a plane is of the utmost importance, especially if they've been travelling for a long time and are exhausted.

But one mum and dad have been slammed as "selfish" after they stopped passengers on a flight from being able to get to sleep because they'd decided to allow their young daughter to wear a light-up costume - which completely negated the effects of the dimly-lit cabin they were sitting in.

A video of the packed flight went viral after being shared on TikTok by a user named @malecastellonn and on Instagram by @sarcasm_only, and it showed the dark cabin with passengers trying to get settled before it panned across to a section of the plane where they seemed to be some rapidly flashing lights.

Finally, the video showed a young girl wearing a hat in the shape of a rabbit that had lights in the ears as well as multi-coloured lights that travelled down the hat. And while the girl looked happy with her brightly-coloured headwear, the people around her seemed less than impressed.

In fact, commenters on the video were not thrilled either, as many of them said they wouldn't be able to cope if they were on that particular flight, and slammed the parents for allowing their daughter to wear the distracting hat. One person said: "Sick of people who don't control their children in public spaces," while another added: "This is so rude and disrespectful," while a third moaned: "It's selfish and in very poor taste. Shame on those parents."

Others also pointed out how dangerous it was to have flashing lights on the hat, as it could pose a health risk to a passenger who may have epilepsy. More commenters said they would be "mortified" if they thought they were causing an inconvenience to someone else, with one person writing: "And I was mortified when I accidentally turned my overhead light on last week on a 6 am flight."

The viral video even caused commenters to start discussing the pros and cons of child-free flights, with many calling for the option to fly on a plane that only consists of adult passengers. One said: "I vote for adult-only flight. I would pay extra for adult-only flights," as another agreed, typing: "This is why we need adult-only flights. I'd happily pay more for one."
