Maya Jama and Stormzy romance timeline as reunion confirmed with loved-up snap
Rumours first swirled that Maya Jama and Stormzy had rekindled their romance when she was spotted supporting the Vossi Bop rapper at his headline gig in London’s Victoria Park on August 18.
Days later eagle-eyed fans noticed the pair had jetted off on holiday to Greece together as both shared snaps from what looked to be the same £2,700 a night luxury resort, which reportedly boasts a personal chef, butler, private speedboats and a pool with its own terrace.
While neither posted snaps of each other, they were pictured holding hands and looking very loved up as they walked in the street and took a boat trip together. The luxury holiday is said to have been Stormzy’s “romantic” birthday gift to Love Island host Maya, who turned 29 earlier this month.
He is also said to have flown Maya out to Greece on a private jet and brought her into the exclusive resort via helicopter in a bid to impress the TV presenter, who he plans on “treating like a queen” after four years apart. 2014 – Maya Jama and Stormzy meet at a Red Bull event
Back in October 2014, a 20-year-old Maya clapped eyes on Stormzy, then 21, for the first time at a Red Bull Culture Clash event. At the time they were relatively unknown as both were at the start of the careers.

Maya later admitted she “fancied him from the start”, but the pair were friends for three months before getting together. In a joint interview with Vogue, she confessed: “You know, if I’m really honest, I knew I fancied him from the start. But I didn’t want anything yet, because you know, you’re trying to do the whole friend situation at first. And then I’d do, like, obvious hints that I fancied him and then take it back because I didn’t know if he definitely liked me. It was a childish phase. Then one day we just kissed and that was that!”
2015 – Maya Jama and Stormzy become a power couple
In January 2015, Maya and Stormzy - whose real name is Michael Omari Owuo Jnr - became a couple and despite the huge fame that would follow for both of them, Maya said they had a “normal relationship”. She told The Sunday Times : “We were so young when we met, just beginning our careers. I was just starting at MTV. He’d not even released a single at that point. We were just little babies.”
As their careers grew, they were quickly crowned ‘couple goals’ and became one of the biggest power couples in the UK. They were so in love, Stormzy penned songs including Birthday Girl about Maya, with the presenter going on to appear in the music video for his critically-acclaimed 2017 hit, Big For Your Boots.

After moving into a London home together, Stormzy admitted that he was ready to take his commitment to Maya to the next level and hinted that he would pop the question soon. At the time the rapper was still only 24, but said he couldn’t imagine not having Maya in his life. He told the Mirror in 2017: “I’m still so young but I want to propose, it’s going to happen and I will do it right. She is so sick, she is the best.”
Earlier on in 2017, Maya had also joked that she would be getting married to the grime star during a skit for online show First Heat. But she had also grown tired of being labelled ‘Stormzy’s girlfriend’ and said it added pressure to their relationship.
“I’m not naive to the fact that when you are a woman in the industry, most of the things that people want to talk about are your relationships. It’s different for men. I’d seen that happen to other people,” she told the Times, adding: “I don’t think either of us knew it was going to be such a big thing. We were just: we’re young and in love and we’re going to go for it and work really hard. We’re just together. We never really did red carpets. We didn’t do any of that stuff.”
2019 – Stormzy and Maya Jama split amid cheating rumours
Despite seeming to be the perfect couple, their four-year romance ended in tears in 2019 following rumours that Stormzy was unfaithful to Maya with fellow singer Jorja Smith.
However, as soon as fan speculation began to swirl, Stormzy immediately shut down the rumours and denied cheating on Maya Jama with his close pal Jorja. The split came just a few short days after Stormzy attended Maya’s 25th birthday party at Night Tales bar in Hackney, where the couple posed in an array of loved-up snaps alongside their nearest and dearest.
Days later, Maya's team confirmed that she and Stormzy had called it quits saying: “Maya has moved out of their home in South West London. The decision isn’t one she has come to lightly, but ultimately the relationship has come to an end. She wants to focus on her TV and radio career for now.”
The presenter immediately unfollowed Stormzy on social media and famously deleted all trace of the rapper from her Instagram grid - adding fuel to the fire that they ended on bad terms.

In his 2019 album Heavy is The Head, Stormzy penned a telling song about the end of his four-year relationship with Maya fans in his song Lessons. He alluded to cheating with the lyrics he had 'done the dirt' on Maya.
He also called her “the greatest love I ever knew” and said: "I done the dirt and then I figured that you'll dig it out But that's a coward move, I guess you got me figured out. I know you'll never listen now."
The rapper has always denied being unfaithful, but admitted his behaviour was “disrespectful”. He said: "We'd broken up and I went out and I acted disrespectfully. I was just out in clubs. I knew the world still thought I was in a relationship and I was out looking like I didn't give a f**k. It didn't need to be cheating for it to be a disrespect."
2020 – Stormzy says he still wants to marry Maya Jama and have kids
Although the pair had split, Stormzy insisted he still wanted to marry Maya and father her children in an interview in 2020. He told radio host Charlamagne: "I love her wholeheartedly. I've never loved anyone how I've loved her."
He added he would love to rekindle his relationship with Maya but didn’t know if she would take him back, saying: "I would love to be the man who she needs, I would love to do all the things that make this work. I want to marry her, I want to have her children."

Stormzy watched on as Maya moved on with Australian basketball star Ben Simmons, who had previously dated Kendall Jenner. The pair went public with their relationship when they were spotted kissing at Wimbledon in July 2021. Ben later popped the question in October that year after an eight-month romance.
But following a low-key engagement, Ben and Maya called time on their relationship in September 2022 and she became single again. It was later reported Ben had asked Maya to return the £800,000 ring he gave her but she shut down the rumours calling them “false accusations”.
It is said the pair’s hectic schedules were to blame for the split and “as much as they love each other, their non-stop careers and endless travel made it incredibly impossible to make it work”.
2022 – Stormzy is still talking about Maya in interviews
Two years on from their split, Stormzy told GQ his break-up with Maya still weighed heavy on his heart. He told the magazine: “I’d never experienced a break-up and the feelings that come with a break-up.
“And I never wanted to ever be in a position again where I felt what I was feeling. Because it showed me that I was a boy. And I do not want to go any further as a boy. I’ve seen how that manifests in other people and I don’t want to be like that.”
In a separate interview with Louis Theroux, Stormzy blamed himself for the split and said: “My break-up was probably the biggest catalyst for my growth as a man. It was like, ‘OK, you made a mistake and you lose someone you loved, someone you cared for, someone who is special to you. That’s probably the biggest loss a man can have, isn’t it? Away from someone passing away, that’s the biggest loss you can have.”

After being spotted together at his headline gig at All Points East festival in east London’s Victoria Park, Stormzy and Maya jet off on a luxury holiday to Greece together to celebrate her 29th birthday seemingly confirming their romance is definitely back on almost four years on from splitting.
In the images, obtained by the MailOnline, Maya can be seen wearing a bikini top, sun hat and midi length white flowing skirt as she held Stormzy's hand. The rapper donned an all-white ensemble for the outing in Greece, with the newly reunited couple spotted hopping on a boat together amid their break.
Just months earlier, Maya had told Vogue that all she had ever wanted was “real love”, adding: “That’s all I ever want. Just real love. I want a best friend that I’m in love with and I have had that before [referring to Stormzy].”
