A daughter whose mum died when she fell into the cellar of a pub has pleaded for investigations into the tragedy to be completed soon to give her mother "justice".

Olwen Collier had gone to the Stag and Pheasant in Carmel, Carmarthenshire, to decorate a function room for her daughter's 50th birthday party. While carrying out preparations, she opened a door and fell into the cellar, suffering severe in the accident.

Police carried out initial inquiries into the incident, leading to an investigation by Carmarthenshire Council health and safety officers. But seven months on from the tragedy her daughter, Allison Raymond, said she is still no closer to getting closure with investigations continuing.

Mrs Raymond told WalesOnline: “My message to Carmarthenshire Council would be: please just get mammy justice. I can't have any closure at all because we are still waiting on the investigation to go through, so the inquest can't be.

“Life insurances can't be totalled because of everything that is happening with the investigation. I really appreciate all the help from Carmarthenshire Council so far, but we're still in limbo.

Nothing is happening. The council is still investigating. We're struggling as a family. It's killing us as a family, we're falling apart.

“I've got my own business, you try and put on a front and try to keep the business going, as that's what my mother would have wanted, but it's hard. Dealing with the public every day, you put this front on and it's just so hard.”

Mrs Collier had gone to the Stag and Pheasant on January 12. She was later airlifted to the University of Wales Hospital in Cardiff where she died four days later at the age of 69.

Her daughter said at the time: “I can't comprehend what's happened. I can't accept the fact she is not going to come home.

“Mammy was such an outgoing person. She was still running her own business, she ran Bizzie Lizzies Cafe in Gorseinon for 35 years with Sam Booth.

"She was fit and healthy and she would do lots of charity work. I just can't get my head around it. It's horrendous. We're still in disbelief. I feel quite sick that she died in that way."

Ms Collier had two children, Mrs Raymond and Helen Atherfold, as well as five grandchildren - Sion, Tomos, Emyr, Ethan and Emily - and one great granddaughter, Olivia-Grace.

Carmarthenshire Council's cabinet member for rural affairs and planning policy, councillor Ann Davies, said: “I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to Mrs Raymond and her family. We are grateful for their patience as we thoroughly investigate this case.

“As with many cases, matters of this kind will inevitably involve a lot of factors and investigation which can make the process a lengthy one. Therefore, whilst our investigation is ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment at this time.”
