Meghan's awkward William confession that forced her to apologise to Harry

Meghan Markle has always maintained she knew very little of royal life when she struck up a romance with Prince Harry.

When they began dating she admitted not knowing much about her future husband and had to ask friends what he was really like after they were put in touch. But it seems she was asked about Harry in an interview while an actress in legal drama Suits - and it later forced her to apologise to him.

It came in the first episode of the couple's bombshell Netflix series when the pair watched back an old interview of Meghan filmed a year before they met. During the upbeat chat, the interviewer asks Meghan to pick between Prince William and Harry, to which she shrugged and paused before eventually choosing her future husband and saying "Prince Harry, sure".

On seeing the interview, Harry leans forward giggling while saying "sure", as Meghan then asks the Netflix film-maker what year the interview was. When it was revealed it was from October 2015, Harry said it was less than a year before they met. To which Meghan replied: "Honey I'm sorry. Of course, I choose you." While Harry added: "This just shows how little you knew. And look how far we've come."

In the same Netflix docuseries, Harry rails against his brother as well as his father King Charles. He accuses William of "shouting and screaming" at him during a meeting and accuses his dad of not telling the truth. After the series was released, Harry's controversial memoir Spare was released with even more claims, including that William physically attacked him.

Relations between Harry and his royal relatives are believed to still be very rocky - and during a busy trip back to the UK next month, he will not meet up with either his brother or dad, royal sources reveal. Insiders confirmed neither the King nor Prince William have plans to see the Duke, while he has "no intention" of visiting them on a whistle-stop stay. Harry will attend a charity awards event in London on September 7 before the royals mourn Queen Elizabeth II, 96, who died on September 8 last year.

Harry’s Invictus Games for wounded troops begins in Dusseldorf, Germany, on September 9, meaning he is likely to spend less than 48 hours in the UK. A source said the family relationship remains “firmly rooted at rock bottom” after Harry’s criticism of Charles, 74, and William, 41, and other royals in TV interviews and his explosive memoir Spare.

The insider added: “While some may suggest it would be good order for the family to settle their differences, perhaps even in the late Queen’s memory, things are a long way off.” The last time Harry was with Charles and William was the King’s Coronation on May 6.
