Erik ten Hag is set to be handed a new contract by Manchester United before the end of the year, despite the uncertainty surrounding the club's ownership.
United have been on the market since last November but the Glazer family are yet to decide whether or not to sell. Ten Hag, 53, has been steering the ship amid the speculation and after ending the Red Devils' six-year trophy drought earlier this year is due to be rewarded with a new deal.
As reported by the Daily Star, the Glazers have sanctioned the start of negotiations over a two-year extension to the Dutchman's deal which currently sees him earn £9million per year. Ten Hag's current contract runs until June 2025 and while United's unpopular owners are expected to have left the club by then, they recognise that sorting the manager's long-term future is a smart move.
Ten Hag's extension, which will take his annual earnings to around £14m, won't be confirmed until later this year, as the Glazers are still mulling over how much to sell the Red Devils for or at all. It's believed that the family want £6billion to hand over the keys to Old Trafford, as British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani continue to vie for a takeover.
More anti-Glazers protests took place following Saturday's 3-2 comeback win at home to Nottingham Forest, with thousands of United supporters refusing to leave Old Trafford for up to an hour. Post-match, Ten Hag was asked to respond to the animosity and said: "The fans are entitled to have that opinion.
