British girl, 15, 'raped on Greek island by 16-year-old Italian tourist'

A 15-year-old British girl has been raped by an Italian tourist on the Greek island of Halki, it has been reported.

Police are scrambling to find the 16-year-old alleged suspect following reports he's fled back home. The attack is alleged to have happened between 4.30am and 5am in the Pondamos area of Halki. The girl went to the doctor's with her mum, which led to medical staff contacting police, it was reported. Police examined the girl, Greek outlet Dimokratiki reported.

Greek police identified the alleged suspect from social media and witness statements. When the alleged victim was shown a photo of him, she told authorities she recognised him immediately, local media reported.

The 16-year-old left the island with his family by ferry on August 23 and later flew back to Italy from Rhodes Airport. The Prosecutor's Office was informed about this while a preliminary investigation is being carried out by AS Halkis,
