Donald Trump posted his mugshot to his social media platform Truth Social, captioning it in just four chilling words: "Election interference never surrender!" He then linked to his campaign website.

Those who visit it are greeted with an even more chilling message: "Today, at the notoriously violent jail in Fulton County, Georgia, I was ARRESTED despite having committed NO CRIME."

He followed that up by saying: "The American people know what's going on. What has taken place is a travesty of justice and ELECTION INTERFERENCE. The Left wants to intimidate YOU out of voting for a political outsider who puts the American people FIRST."

Acting the hero, however, Trump said he "walked into the lion's den" and gave one simple message: "I WILL NEVER SURRENDER OUR MISSION TO SAVE AMERICA."

The site then links to donation portals, where those wishing to contribute to the former president's campaign can do so. But he left them with a disclaimer in what seemed to be an attack on "Bidenomics," the economic structure current President Joe Biden has championed over the last several years of his tenure.

"If you are doing poorly due to the sinister people in control of our country right now, don’t even think about donating!" Trump ominously wrote.

Before that, he ranted to the media gathered outside his private plane.

He started by saying: "it's a very sad day for America that should never happen".

“What has taken place here is a travesty of justice. We did nothing wrong. I did nothing wrong, and everybody knows that,” Trump added. “What they’re doing is election interference.”

“We did nothing wrong at all, and we have every right, every single right, to challenge an election that we think is dishonest.”
He declined to answer shouted questions from the press.

He later posted to his social media platform Truth Social a pic of his mugshot with the caption, "Election interference never surrender!"

The former president, who faces 13 charges in connection to his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election, paid a $200,000 (£157,000) bond Thursday for his release. He surrendered on Thursday, then was released shortly after. A mugshot was taken of him inside the jail.

Trump will remain out on bail as long as his bond conditions aren't breached, which includes not using social media to send personal attacks to individuals involved with the case.

The indictment, which accuses Trump and 18 other co-conspirators, contains a total of 41 state-law felony charges with 13 leveled specifically against the former president.

Trump is charged with one count of violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act(RICO); three counts of solicitation of violation of oath by public officer; one count of conspiracy to commit impersonating a public officer; two counts of conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree; two counts of false statements and writings; two counts of conspiracy to commit false statements and writings; one count of filing false documents and one count of conspiracy to commit filing false documents.

These charges each carry a penalty ranging from one to 20 years in prison if convicted. Experts have said the charges could alternatively carry a fine.

The most serious of the charges, the alleged violation of Georgia's RICO law, allows prosecutors to merge contrasting crimes if they helped advance a single criminal enterprise. In this case, the criminal enterprise is Trump and his circle, including his former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and former lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who plotted an elaborate scheme to teeter the 2020 election in Trump's favor.

Ms Willis has built quite a case against Trump and his fellow defendants. Politico reported that eight Republican activists who falsely assumed the role of the state's presidential electors for Trump have been given immunity deals in accordance with their cooperation.

Trump also wasn't discrete about his alleged activities. His recorded phone call to Georgia State Secretary Brad Raffensperger serves as one example, during which he asked Mr Raffensperger to "find" the nearly 12,000 votes he needed to beat Joe Biden.

Legal experts speculate that Trump may claim that his many falsehoods about the 2020 election results were protected under the First Amendment or say he is exempt from prosecution because his crimes were committed while he was an incumbent.

As of now, the date of the former president's trial is uncertain. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis suggested to proceed on March 4, 2023, but legal experts assert that a trial of this caliber, not to mention its long list of defendants, couldn't start that early.
