Ariana Grande has revealed that she got a new tattoo to represent the "deeply special and transformative" time filming Wicked amid her split from husband Dalton Gomez and rumoured romance with co-star Ethan Slater. One relationship expert gave her opinion on what the deeper meaning behind the tattoo could be.

Ariana's new ink is located on the back of her right hand and is a design which portrays her character Glinda the Good Witch in the upcoming film adaptation of the musical Wicked. Ariana's new hand piece is one that she says she's been wanting to get for "a really long time".

Louella Alderson, relationship expert and co-founder of So Syncd, spoke to The Mirror and shared her thoughts on what the significance of Ariana's new tattoo could be. Louella said: "The tattoo is likely reflective of her love and appreciation for the incredible experience she had while shooting" she added: "It's possible that the tattoo of Glinda also serves as an artistic reminder of how Ariana has grown in her own life."

In an interview with Allure, Ariana revealed that she recently got the tattoo representing her character as filming Wicked as she described the time as: "One of the most deeply special and transformative and fulfilling experiences of my creative life in London [from] the past year and a half."

Louella explained she thinks it's "unlikely" that Ariana's new tattoo has any special significance in terms of her relationship with Ethan Slater. The expert explained: "Ariana has been known to get tattoos in honour of significant moments in her life. She's previously got multiple tattoos dedicated to her loved ones, such as her grandfather, her dogs and where she grew up. Therefore, it's likely that this tattoo is a tribute to the transformative and fulfilling time she had filming Wicked."

During the past year and a half, Ariana has separated from her husband, Dalton Gomez, and was speculated to be dating her co-star Ethan who has since filed from divorce from his wife Lilly Jay after five years of marriage. In more recent reports, the Ariana and Ethan have allegedly been "taking time apart" as Ethan tries to "work things out" with his ex wife.

Louella believes that her new tattoo could serve as a reminder of this time period for many reasons including how she has grown in her own life. She said: "Glinda from Wicked is a representation of goodness and kindness, which could symbolise Ariana’s growth over time in terms of her self-care journey. It could also be a reminder to her to always be kind and compassionate."

When asked what it means to get a tattoo linked to a relationship, the relationship expert explained that the meaning could "vary greatly" depending on the nature of the relationship and the person's feelings toward tattooing.

Louella said: "For some people, tattoos are an incredibly big commitment and a way to declare their love for the other person. It serves as a permanent reminder of their love and the bond they share," she added: "This act can be deeply personal and meaningful, as it represents a tangible expression of their devotion."

Louella said common relationship tattoos include getting one another's names or initials tattooed, or matching tattoos that symbolise a special anniversary date or experience together.

She also shared that for some, relationship tattoos can be very meaningful and for others, they could be seen more as a "piece of art that reflects a certain time". She continued: "They may just like the design and not overthink the symbolism or meaning behind it. People could also be thinking in the back of their minds that they can get it removed or covered if the relationship ends."

Louella advised: "Ultimately, getting a tattoo linked to a relationship is a permanent and deeply personal decision that should be carefully considered. While it can be a beautiful and meaningful gesture, it's important to ensure that both partners are on the same page and fully comfortable with the idea before proceeding."
