Martin Lewis ’ MoneySavingExpert.com website has explained a trick to extend Tesco Clubcard vouchers before millions expire.

The supermarket chain revealed earlier this month how £11.5 million worth of Clubcard vouchers will become worthless after August 31. Tesco sends out Clubcard vouchers every three months - in February, May, August and November - and they expire after two years.

The vouchers due to run out this month were first issued in August 2021. But MoneySavingExpert.com has revealed a trick to make your vouchers last longer, if you’re not quite ready to spend them.

First of all, before August 31, you’ll need to make a small purchase on the Tesco Clubcard Rewards webpage. For example, you could choose to spend just 50p worth of Clubcard points.

Your remaining Clubcard voucher balance will then be credited back to you as points. These points will be turned into vouchers again when Tesco next issues you a Clubcard statement.

“You'll need to do this for each individual voucher though, so weigh up if it's actually worth it for smaller denominations,” warned MSE. “For example, if you've a £10 voucher it's probably worth it – if you've got a handful of £1 vouchers, maybe less so.”

You can check your Clubcard balance by logging into the Tesco Clubcard website with your account details. Once you are logged in, click on “my Clubcard account” and then “vouchers” and you should see a table listing the vouchers you still have to spend.

Tesco shoppers get one Clubcard point for every £1 spent on groceries in stores and online. Drivers also collect points when they buy fuel at a Tesco forecourt - you get one point for every two litres of fuel you buy.

Additionally, every £1 spent on Tesco Mobile is worth one point, while every £4 spent on a Tesco credit card is also worth one point. You'll also get one point for every £1 spent using a Tesco Clubcard Pay+ debit card.

You need a minimum of 150 points to get a Clubcard voucher, which will be worth £1.50 to spend in Tesco. If you don't want to spend your vouchers in Tesco stores, it is possible to double the value of your points if you use them with a “Rewards Partner”.

Some examples of companies where you can spend your vouchers include Thorpe Park, Pizza Express and the RAC. You used to be able to triple the value of points with a “Rewards Partner” but Tesco reduced this to double the value in June 2023.
