Davina McCall 'lands surprise cameo in Doctor Who's Christmas special'

Davina McCall has reportedly landed a surprise guest role in the Christmas special of Doctor Who.

The 52-year-old The Masked Singer star, who previously voiced a Davinadroid on the series in 2005, will reportedly have a hilarious cameo in the December edition of the fan-favourite science fiction series - which will see Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa make his debut as the fifteenth incarnation Doctor.

She will be playing herself as the presenter of a genealogy show, similar to her real-life ITV series Long Lost Family. The show welcomes the Doctor's new companion Ruby Sunday (played by Millie Gibson ) as she goes on the search for her birth family. According to sources, Davina will later be killed by a falling Christmas tree.

"The Christmas special is a huge deal for the BBC — this year especially so, as it's Ncuti and Millie's first," the source told The Sun. "The Davina storyline is one element of the big festive episode on the table." Mirror have contacted the BBC for comment.

Meanwhile, David Tennant and Catherine Tate will be reprising their old roles for a few episodes before Ncuti takes over as the new Time Lord. The special episodes are set to air in the autumn and will have the Doctor (David) and Donna Noble reunite and take on more aliens.

They have reprised their roles for a series of three specials to celebrate the show’s 60th anniversary. The titles of the three specials, which are set to air in November, have also been revealed as The Star Beast, Wild Blue Yonder and The Giggle. It will also feature other well-known names such as Yasmin Finney and Neil Patrick Harris.

Showrunner Russell T Davies said: "The titles are just the beginning of the Doctor’s biggest adventure yet. Autumn is coming, with three hours of danger, Donna and disaster about to be unleashed!" After the three episodes, Ncuti will be taking over as the 15th Doctor.

This is due to air at the end of the year where the new Doctor will be joined by Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday. Production is already underway with the BBC releasing a sneak peek of the pair wearing sixties clothing. Last year, Russell said: "If you thought the appearance of David Tennant was a shock, we’ve got plenty more surprises on the way. The path to Ncuti’s 15th Doctor is laden with mystery, horror, robots, puppets, danger and fun.

"We’re giving you a year to speculate, and then all hell lets loose."
