Jonnie Irwin has praised the versatility of the NHS after the presenter was asked to attend an MRI and CT scan to monitor his terminal cancer.

But the A Place In The Sun presenter wasn't prepared for what he was met with at an unlikely venue for his scans. Usually, patients are asked to attend specialist hospitals for the various scans but Jonnie's venue was far more surprising.

The 49-year-old took to his Instagram profile to reveal his shock when he discovered he was been scanned in portable scanners located at a nearby leisure centre car park. But while he was initially shocked, the dad-of-three praised the NHS for its versatility.

In a video shared with his 205,000 followers, he said: "I got some scans today. Not in a hospital but in a leisure centre car park. MRI and CT unit. In this, surprising." Captioning his upload, Jonnie wrote: "I actually had a great experience. We were able to park almost on the doorstep, no queue and done n dusted in under 15 minutes. Well done #nhs."

His upload which has racked up over 16,000 likes was soon flooded with comments from fans who couldn't get over Jonnie's appearance. One wrote: "You look really amazing Jonnie. Keep fighting all your fans have their hands on your back." A second commented: "Looking really well, Johnnie, sincerely. Hope you had a good break."

"So glad it all went ok and was a positive experience for you! Scanxiety is a real thing, I know from experience, but when you have a good experience it certainly helps with future scans," said a third. While a fourth supporter typed: "You look great. Good luck keeping everything crossed."

"You are looking fantastic," exclaimed another. Jonnie's latest update comes after he and his family enjoyed a break away together, which he said was initially "hell". The presenter, his wife and their three children endured a five-hour-long car journey.

Discussing the drive, he said: "5 hours on and off in car with the boys. Each one with a tablet/screen without headphones! Acoustic hell!" His wife Jess took the wheel as she jokingly furrowed her brows as she tried to focus on the road. Jonnie sat in the passenger seat and stared down the camera lens with a pained expression in his eyes.

The presenter revealed last year how he is unsure how long he has left to live, after being diagnosed with lung cancer in August 2020, which has since spread to his brain. He has yet to tell his three young sons about his cancer diagnosis as it would simply 'confuse' them. Last month, he marked his "last ever" trip to the nursery with his son Rex, four.
