Bryson DeChambeau has admitted he has not had any communication with Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson since the PGA Championship at Oak Hill three months ago.

DeChambeau has put his name into Ryder Cup contention in recent weeks, after securing his first LIV Golf title with an historic final round 12-under 58 at Greenbrier earlier this month. The American has enjoyed somewhat of a resurgence in recent months after struggling for form and fitness throughout 2022.

His impressive recent run appeared to really kickstart at the PGA Championship in May, where the LIV star showed he was still more than capable of competing against his PGA Tour rivals with a tied-fourth finish.

Despite kicking on since, DeChambeau has admitted that his impressive showing at Oak Hill was the last time he had been in conversation with captain Johnson, which could well answer the question to his Ryder Cup selection hopes. The 2020 U.S. Open champion is one of a number of LIV stars hoping to make it to Marco Simone at the end of September.

But for DeChambeau, it seems his recent heroics have come too little too late for his skipper. "I talked to him [Johnson] at the PGA [Championship] a little bit. He said, ‘Good luck, play well man. Rooting for you.’ After that, nothing," The 29-year-old LIV man told Golfweek.

Despite his wilting chances, the American claimed that selected or not, he will still be backing his nation when they defend their title on Italian soil next month. "I don’t expect anything. I’ll be rooting them on if I’m not there," he added. "And if I do so happen to get the opportunity to play, I’m there for Team USA and I’m going to give it my full-force effort."

DeChambeau and co were dealt another blow this week, after Johnson cast more doubt over their chances by claiming he is unable to 'witness' how LIV stars are playing for their switch from the PGA Tour. He told Golf.com's 'Subpar Podcast': "I’m gonna be fully transparent. It’s hard because I’m not able to witness what they’re doing and see their form, with the exception of four events a year."

On the back of the U.S. captain's comments, DeChambeau was sympathetic with Johnson and quick to once again reiterate his support for the team. "I understand the position that they don’t see us playing enough, so it’s kind of difficult to make a decision, I get that," he commented. "But at the end of the day, it is what it is and I’ll be rooting for Team USA no matter what.”
