A mother is seeking answers after her 7-year-old daughter came home with severe bruises on her arms.
Niya Jones discovered the marks on Thursday, August 17 as she was helping her daughter wear a seatbelt after picking her up from Morning Starr Childcare Center at District Heights in Maryland. Distressed by the situation, Ms Jones immediately reported it to the local police and Child Protective Services. The daycare had surveillance cameras that captured the incident.
Footage from the scene showed an employee, 21-year-old Latayzia Forbes, shoving and forcefully moving the girl. The daycare promptly fired Forbes and is conducting an investigation. The daycare manager expressed shock at Forbes' behaviour, as she had shown no previous signs of such behaviour. Forbes has been working at the facility since 2021.

I didn’t know how to feel because I’ve never been put in this situation where my child was caused bodily harm or bruised at all. I didn’t know what to think. Didn’t know what to feel. She could have had internal bleeding or internal damage, and we would've never known. It took me picking my child up to see it."

Speaking of Forbes, she added: "She’s never shown any signs of that. She’s very gentle, kind-hearted. I can’t even explain what was going through her head at the situation. I’ve never had this situation with any other employee. So, for her to do that, it just, I don’t’ know. I can’t really put into words because I’m still … because it’s so new, it’s definitely devastating that it happened."

Prince George's police conducted interviews and reviewed the video footage before determining that 21- year-old Latayzia Forbes of Bowie, Maryland was involved in a child abuse incident, a police report said. Forbes was arrested by the Prince George’s County Police Child and Vulnerable Adult Abuse Unit and charged with second-degree child abuse and second-degree assault. She has been taken to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections for further processing.
