Drivers are just discovering little-known window function that prevents injuries
In many of today's new cars, there are so many buttons that perform so many functions, it can be hard to keep track of what they all do and exactly how to get the most use out of each one. In fact, it turns out there's one button in some new cars that can help to prevent serious injuries - but most drivers had no idea it even existed.
According to one woman on TikTok, your car could have a button that will ensure you and your passengers never get your fingers or other objects stuck in the windows as they close, thanks to a sensor that will stop the window from closing if it detects an object blocking its path.
The motoring expert, who posts on TikTok under the username @chequanxiaoqiao, said that all you need to do to trigger the function is pull the window lift switch and hold it for five seconds, which should kickstart the "anti-pinch" function. She said: "Pull the window lift switch for five seconds, the one-button window lift function and the anti-pinch function are set successfully. Lift and lower the glass with a single touch. When the window detects an obstacle, it will automatically lower and prevent hands from being pinched."
The function is designed to prevent drivers from getting their fingers trapped in their windows, especially with many new cars featuring one-touch electric windows that only require the driver to press the close button once, rather than hold it down until the window is fully shut. However, drivers should be aware that this function is only available in modern cars, and the method to activate the function may vary on their model. With that in mind, you should read the owner's handbook that came with your vehicle to make sure you're activating the feature correctly.
And the anti-pinch function isn't the only interesting car feature that the TikTok user discussed in her video, as she claimed some new cars also have a feature that will automatically adjust your wing mirrors when you're in reverse, making it easier to park your car. She explained: "Align the mirror switch to R [right], put it into reverse gear, then adjust the mirror lens to the position where you can just see the rear tire. The automatic flip function of the mirror is set. When you put it in reverse gear the mirror will automatically flip to prevent scratches on the tires."
