Gardner Minshew shows true colours after Anthony Richardson named starting QB
Gardner Minshew would have thought that he had landed in the perfect spot when he signed with the Indianapolis Colts.
When he signed with the team, Minshew certainly had a good chance to be the starter with the team picking with the fourth overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
And when they used that selection on Anthony Richardson, the veteran must have felt he'd been the shoe-in starter, with the rookie only having 13 starts in college with the Florida Gators.
Richardson was seen as a risky option when he was selected by the team so highly in the draft, but was the prospect with the highest potential due to his extreme athleticism and cannon of a right arm - something the Colts were willing to bet on.
And after impressing in preseason, Richardson won the job to open the season, and was made the starter over Minshew. A likeable quarterback since he entered the league in, Minshew could not have taken the news better in a showing of support for his new teammate.

Speaking on being the back-up to Richardson, Minshew said: "I totally understand and I’m all-in with what we got going. I can’t stress enough, I’m really excited about Anthony, I think he’s going to be really special. I think he’s got a great opportunity here."
Minshew has started 24 games in his career, and could be the perfect mentor for Richardson - who will no doubt have his up and downs as he learns on the job while having very limited experience.

The 21-year-old was officially named the starting quarterback for week one of the regular season - the Colts eighth different starter on day one in as many seasons.
Although undoubtedly a risky move, Colts fans will be delighted to have Richardson on the opening day of the season, after signing veteran quarterbacks who struggled in their last four consecutive years.
Richardson will hope to be the franchise quarterback for the next 15 years, with the team desperate for stability at the position - while having a strong offensive-line and being a solid team for a quarterback to grow with.
