Liverpool are reeling after Chelsea beat them to the signings of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

The Reds need to bolster their midfield options after losing Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to the riches of the Saudi Pro League. But they have been snubbed by their two targets, despite making similar offers to Chelsea.

There isn’t long left before the summer transfer window closes on September 1 and Jurgen Klopp is desperate for reinforcements after fielding an extremely attacking midfield in the opening Premier League game against Chelsea on Sunday.

Liverpool need a ball-winning midfielder who can allow new arrivals Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister to play further forward. With that in mind, here are the latest reports on their business.

Doucoure the top target

Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure is the top transfer target for Liverpool after they missed out on signing Caicedo and Lavia.

Liverpool were rejected by Caicedo and Lavia, who both chose Chelsea, but are pressing on with other options. Chief among those is Doucoure, who starred for Palace last season.

The Independent says Palace are worried about losing a key player so close to the end of the transfer window and will demand £60m for him. However, Doucoure wants to join Liverpool and personal terms are not expected to be an issue.

Fulham star Joao Palhinha, 28, and Nice's French talent Khephren Thuram, 22, are other options, while Foot Mercato says Aston Villa's Boubacar Kamara is of interest too.

Gravenberch ‘prefers Man Utd’

Liverpool have reignited their interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, but could be rejected once more.

The Reds have been linked with Gravenberch for some time, yet rumours died down this summer amid suggestions he could finally get game time at the German giants.

However, Foot Mercato reports that Liverpool and Manchester United have been encouraged about his availability.

The outlet says Gravenberch would favour a move to Old Trafford, if a bid were to come in.

Inacio interest

Liverpool desperately need central midfielders, but they are looking at other positions, if a report from Portuguese outlet Diario de Noticias is to be believed.

The Reds are reportedly interested in Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio, despite the 21-year-old centre-back being close to signing a new deal with the club.

Inacio currently has a release clause of £38.5m but it is set to rise to £42.9m once his new contract has been signed. Liverpool are apparently willing to match that price tag.
