Emmerdale has seen its fair share of family arrivals in the village and while some are still going strong, others have left for pastures new.
One family in particular were the Barton family with dad James (Bill Ward), mum Emma (Gillian Kearney) and sons - Ross (Michael Parr), Pete (Anthony Quinlan) and Finn (Joe Gill). However, viewers will recall that the three siblings gained another brother after it was revealed that Adam Barton's (Adam Thomas), whose mum is Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb), biological dad was in fact James and not the latter's brother John (James Thornton) as he had been led to believe.
The Barton brothers, as well as parents James and Emma, were involved in some of the ITV's soaps most gripping storylines, including the Hotten Bypass crash, a harrowing acid attack and a murder coverup. Fans will recall that James died in 2016 after an unhinged Emma held him hostage due to her jealously over Moira. James attempted to escape from her evil clutches but Emma found him and shoved him off a bridge, which caused a car pile-up involving several of the villagers. James later died in hospital.

Later that year, in a bid to save his mother, who had recently welcomed son Isaac Dingle, Adam confessed to Emma's murder. But instead of facing a prison stint, Adam instead decided to go on the run as he fled the village never to be seen again.
After so much family turmoil, it was just Ross and Pete left in the village as they struggled with the deaths of their family members. Yet there was more tragedy in store for Ross when he was involved in a harrowing acid attack in a case of mistaken identity. Eventually, Ross left the village in 2018 with Rebecca White and her son Sebastian White to move to Liverpool. Ross, who fathered son Moses with Charity Dingle in 2015, is regularly mentioned off-screen. This now left Pete, who eventually decided to leave the village in 2020 to join Ross in Liverpool as he continued to grieve for his family.

Adam Barton played by Adam Thomas
Adam Thomas played Adam Barton from 2009 until 2018. After leaving the ITV soap, the actor, 34, has gone on to reprise his role of Donte Charles in the reboot of Waterloo Road. Adam also appeared in Nativity! The Musical in 2018, as well as hosting I'm A Celebrity: Extra Camp in 2019. Adam has just been announced as one of 15 celebrities for the 2023 series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Michael Parr played Ross Barton from 2013 until 2018. Since leaving Emmerdale, Michael, 37, has been exploring theatre and film opportunities. The actor has appeared in productions such as Rita, Sue and Bob Too! at St Helens Theatre Royal. Elsewhere, Michael appeared in Bulletproof in 2020 as Ben Woodall and starred in 2021 film, Evan Wood, as Adam, as well as 2023 movie Ocean Deep as Adrian.
Pete Barton played by Anthony Quinlan
Anthony Quinlan played Pete Barton from 2013 until 2020. After leaving the hit ITV soap, Anthony, 38, has turned his attentions to his impressive fitness career, where he has opened his own vegan supplements business and started an online coaching platform to "lose weight and get lean". He is also loved-up with Hollyoaks star Nikki Sanderson after confirming their romance in 2022.

Joe Gill played Finn Barton from 2013 until their character's death in 2017. Joe, 29, has since starred in the likes of Wuthering Heights as Hareton Earnshaw in 2020, Brassic as a police officer in 2022 and is currently involved in the autumn tour of Helen Forrester's By The Waters Of Liverpool.
