Patrick Mahomes half-time team talk and reaction to Chiefs touchdown sums him up
Patrick Mahomes was not happy with his Kansas City Chiefs teammates in their opening preseason game.
The reigning MVP and Super Bowl champion made a surprise appearance in the game, coming in for the first drive as he completed both of his passes before the offense could not gain a first down running the ball.
The Chiefs found themselves down big in the first-half, with the New Orleans Saints dominating them to a 17-0 lead - with Mahomes having words for his teammates.
Mahomes told reporters: "It was good to get out there again and get in the swing of things. I was little pumped up at halftime there. We had to bring the energy level up on the sideline. But I think the guys were responding well. I mean, obviously there are mistakes but guys are learning from it, and I’m excited for these guys in the second half."
And that seemed to have paid dividends, with the Chiefs being much the better team in the second - being lead by back-up quarterback Shane Buechele.

Buechele has been with the Chiefs for the past two seasons, going into his third year spending most of his time on the practice squad. But with the new rule being added this year which means teams can have three quarterbacks on the roster - Buechele hopes to make prove himself as worthy this preseason.
And when he lead two touchdown drives, no-one was happier to see it than Mahomes.
On one particular play, the undrafted third-year pro was able to evade a Saints pass-rush before scrambling to his right and finding the end zone - in a Mahomes-esque play.

Buechele was one of three other quarterbacks to play in the game, as he is currently slated to be the third-string choice.
Former back-up for Tom Brady, Blaine Gabbert is likely to be the man to replace should Mahomes be out. He threw eight attempts with four completions and a touchdown, meanwhile Buechele threw 18 attempts with 11 completions - two touchdowns and one interception for 155 yards.
Undrafted Chris Oladokun also saw playing time, but struggled throwing just 59 yards on 12 attempts and interception.
