Man's brutal question about his ex-wife's wedding dress after they divorce

The breakdown of a marriage is extremely difficult for everyone involved. Even if the relationship ends on good terms, it can be heartbreaking for couples as they begin to split their lives up and learn to live without each other.

Even when you think everything is done and dusted and you both start to move on with your lives, sometimes little things can pop up years later. One man has found himself thinking about his wedding again several years after he and his wife decided to go their separate ways.

When he was leaving the home he shared with his soon-to-be ex-wife, he found her wedding dress in the wardrobe. He just assumed she had forgotten it so took it with him and waited for her to call. But she never did, and he's now not sure what to do with it.

He wants to know if it's acceptable to sell it on to make a bit of cash. Writing on the parenting website Mamamia, he said: "In 2005, I married someone I'd met three years before, but only got involved with six months prior.

"Sadly, five years later we separated. Due to then-financial circumstances we did the 'living separated under one roof' thing – but I thought that her bringing her new boyfriend into the home was a bit much. We sold the house within six months, and went our separate ways. However, upon last inspection of the empty house before sale, I found her wedding dress hanging in her bedroom closet – with nothing else. I took it, expecting her to contact me.

"It’s been eight years. I assume I can sell it. I paid for it – but I also paid for her engagement and wedding rings (not to mention $20,000 worth of other jewellery over the years) which she kept. The thing is, this dress is also around $10,000 – isn't it hers? I’m assuming that she left it deliberately – but I can’t figure why she didn’t just take it and sell it."

The anonymous man signed the email Obviously Clueless. What do you think?
