Gary Lineker has urged Tottenham to go and sign Evan Ferguson from Brighton after losing Harry Kane to Bayern Munich in a record-breaking move.

Kane, 30, was unveiled as a Bayern player on Saturday morning after signing a four-year contract at the Allianz Arena. The German giants will pay Tottenham a fee of £86.4million plus add-ons for Kane, who could win a trophy on Saturday night as Bayern face RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup.

As for Spurs, Ange Postecoglou may now be on the lookout for a replacement despite signing 19-year-old Alejo Veliz from Rosario Central last month. Ex-Tottenham forward Lineker has backed Ferguson to come in and replace Kane in north London after scoring for Brighton against Luton on Saturday.

Lineker tweeted: "Evan Ferguson scores in Fergie time. He's a born goalscorer. If I was in charge of recruitment at @SpursOfficial. I'd take a punt on him as Kane's replacement. Apologies to @OfficialBHAFC fans."

Ferguson struck late on for the Seagulls as they earned an opening day 4-1 victory over newly-promoted Luton at the Amex Stadium. The Republic of Ireland international got on the end of Pervis Estupinan's cross before diverting the ball into the back of the net.

Solly March, Joao Pedro and Simon Adingra also netted for Brighton, who moved to the top of the Premier League table after the 3pm kick offs. Despite receiving praise from Lineker after the match, Ferguson was not even named in Roberto De Zerbi's starting XI against Luton as Danny Welbeck got the nod.

Ferguson has been linked with a move away from Brighton this summer and Manchester United were said to be interested in the 18-year-old before coming through at the Seagulls. During his debut season in the Premier League, Ferguson scored six times in 19 appearances.

Tottenham face Brentford in their Premier League opener on Sunday afternoon, with Richarlison set to get the nod up front for Postecoglou's side. Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski are expected to start out wide, while new vice-captain James Maddison would fill the no.10 position.

Speaking ahead of the game, the Aussie said: "Sometimes when an opportunity presents itself you have to take it. I'm not expecting one player to step up and cover the absence of Harry Kane. It's about how we can become a strong combined offensive force. We have some strong attacking players and Richarlison is one of them."

He added: "It's going to be a great a challenge for us - a great physical challenge. They work hard as a team and are well organised so we need to try and counter that. We want to play our football and start to lay foundations."
