Lil Tay fell victim to a social media death hoax after her accounts were hacked a Meta representative has confirmed. The teen influencer has been on quite the rollercoaster this week after she was announced dead on Instagram with a heartbreaking statement that appeared to come from her family.
The post - supposedly from a representative - called her death a "sudden and tragic passing" and an "unbearable loss". The statement appeared to confirm the 15-year-old's death as it read: "It is with a heavy heart that we share the devastating news of our beloved Claire's sudden and tragic passing. We have no words to express the unbearable loss and indescribable pain."

Lil Tay then claimed that her Instagram account had been hacked by a third party who had made the false claim pretending to be associated with her or her family.

Both Meta and fans of the starlet began investigating what had happened immediately due to the way the misinformation was spread.
Now in a statement to TMZ, the Meta rep reiterated the claim that Tay had been hacked and explained that they had helped her to regain access to her account. Tay reportedly thanked Meta staff for their help and was incredibly grateful to get back into her account.
