For many, when they think of a wedding dress, they will instantly envision the sort of flowing ivory gown brides have been wearing for generations, even if that very particular style isn't to everyone's personal taste. A number of modern brides however will opt for a less traditional look entirely, eschewing pristine white for a confident scarlet, daring green, or striking black.

Of course, as many brides will know all too well, a more alternative look will often attract a fair bit of horror among more traditional-minded relatives, no matter how beautiful the dress might be. Now a professional bridal dress consultant has shared an interaction she's witnessed between a bride and her mother during a dress shopping outing, with the mum taking issue with her daughter opting for a pitch-black gown.

In a TikTok video, the bridal dress consultant, who goes by the username @ivorybridalco, acted out the scene she'd apparently seen unfold at Ivory Bridal Co, a bridal shop located in Minneapolis, in the US. Acting out the part of the bride, first of all, the expert could be seen holding a long black lace gown and gesturing at it enthusiastically, explaining, "When the bride says she wants a black wedding dress".

She then switched to the part of the disapproving mum, sporting a pair of black sunglasses as she held up a more traditional-looking gown, clearly not exactly thrilled with her daughter's choice. Dramatising the scene, the expert wrote, "Mum: 'But it's not white'," adding, "Yes, we know mum, that's the point".

While the mum clearly had some doubts about forgoing white, many of those in the comments section loved the idea of picking a less obvious colour. One person approved: "I love the idea of black wedding dresses!!! And the bridal party wearing white." Another applauded: "Black wedding dresses are so slept on. They're just as pretty and elegant as white dresses."

A third remarked: "I want to have a Halloween wedding. Black dress, in October, and guests are encouraged to come in costumes!!" Expressing their personal regrets, a fourth person, who could no doubt relate to the acted-out situation all too well, lamented: "I wanted a black dress so badly but my family harassed me until I caved. I hate my wedding pictures because I do not like wearing white at all."
