16-year-old dies a week after being found unconscious
A Texas teenager has tragically died after she was suddenly found unconscious while she was away at a cheerleading camp.
Callie Marie Mitchell, from Katy, was discovered passed out by her coach at a camp at Texas A&M University. Coach Lorraine Eberly was forced to perform CPR on the teen before she was rushed to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. She lay in a coma for a week before she passed away on August 1.
Callie's devastated parents credited Coach Eberly with giving them the "chance to say goodbye" to their daughter who "always wanted to be a friend to anyone and everyone," according to her father.
Speaking to Katy Magazine, Callie's dad Scott said "You could hear the joy and happiness in her voice," while his daughter was away at camp. She began cheerleading at the age of just two and last week she was honoured by the Universal Cheerleading
Association and named an Honorary Lifetime All-American Cheerleader.

Justin Castleberry, one of Callie's former coaches, added: "Some kids you connect with on a different level and Callie was one of those kids. She brought joy and light to the room and to everyone she encountered.
