Gary Lineker believes Harry Kane will be on his way to Bayern Munich after Spurs accepted a £86.4million bid.

A saga that has dragged on throughout the summer transfer window seemingly came to a conclusion late on Wednesday night, when Daniel Levy accepted Bayern's fourth offer for Kane. That's despite it falling slightly short of the £100m fee that Levy and co were reportedly holding out for.

However, despite a move to one of European football''s most powerful clubs being within his grasp, Kane himself is yet to decide on his future. And his apparent hesitancy has left Spurs fans hopeful that he will stay in north London and see out the final 12 months of his contract, leaving himself eligible to leave on a free at the end of the season.

But Match of the Day host Lineker, who himself moved abroad twice during his own illustrious club career, doesn't believe a bid would have been accepted had Kane not requested a move. And developments have left him in no doubt as to what the England captain will do now.

"Seems Harry Kane is on his way to Bayern Munich," he tweeted. "Clubs have agreed the fee. That would not have happened unless Harry wanted the move."

Moving to the Bundesliga champions could scupper Kane's hopes of breaking the all-time Premier League goalscoring record. His current total of 213 is just 47 short of the 260 racked up by Lineker's BBC colleague Alan Shearer.

And Lineker also couldn't resist making light of the situation with the former Blackburn striker, who previously joked he "would drive Kane to the airport," in order to keep his record intact: "A @restisfootball emergency podcast is on the cards with an ecstatic Alan Shearer," he added.

The BBC presenter has previously urged the 30-year-old to make the move, saying: The time is right for him, and the right club has come in for him. Munich is a lovely city and Bayern are one of the great clubs in world football." But another former England striker in Michael Owen has urged him to value personal milestones over inevitable trophies in Germany.

"There’s no great achievement in winning a trophy with them," ranted Owen. "Real Madrid I would understand. Or one or two top Premier League clubs for that matter. Becoming the all time Premier League top goal scorer at Tottenham is a bigger achievement than winning the league in a country dominated by one team."
