Harry Kane's private Bayern concerns after Spurs finally accept transfer bid

Harry Kane's potential move to Bayern Munich will hinge on whether the England striker thinks it is too late in the day.

After a summer of intense speculation, it seemed inevitable that the 30-year-old would stay in north London, with Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy defiantly rejecting three separate bids from the German giants. But the the saga took a huge twist on Wednesday evening, with the two clubs finally reaching an agreement.

Bayern have had an £86.4million bid accepted, with Levy's softened stance deriving from the Bundesliga holders offering a large sum of the fee up front. The decision now rests with Kane, who faces the biggest call of his club career.

He has already voiced his desire to break Kane Alan Shearer's record of 260 Premier League goals and currently sits 47 off the mark on 213. But his career remains tagged by the fact that no major trophies have accompanied his goalscoring efforts, a notion a move to Bayern is likely to sort out.

However, Sky Sports News are reporting that Kane now has doubts about leaving Spurs, despite a move being within his grasp. He's seemingly concerned that his transfer has only been agreed on the eve of the 2023/24 campaign, having previously vowed to remain at his curreny club if no deal had been agreed ahead of their Premier League opener at Brentford on Sunday.

That fixture is now less than 72 hours away, with Kane having already completed a full pre-season under new manager Ange Postecoglou. And regardless of the outcome, he will miss Bayern's first competitive clash, their DFL Supercup game with RB Leipzig on Saturday.

Kane scored 30 Premier League goals for Spurs last season, a marker only bettered by Manchester City's Erling Haaland. But Postecoglou has refused to become embroiled in any transfer talk over his key man, fending off questions after Kane's four-goal haul against Shaktar Donetsk last Sunday.

"You saw today that Harry Kane certainly is invested in what we're doing - and we will keep on doing that unless something changes," the Australian said afterwards. "We know there's one deadline: that's the end of the transfer window."

The timing of the move will also inevitably anger Tottenham fans, and would leave them with a race against time to find a suitable replacement. The transfer window closes at 11pm on September 1.
